So, I was just playing games on my laptop then my surface keyboard and the other pluggable keyboard stopped working. I thinked like this was a keyboard language issue, but it wasn't. I even restarted the laptop but it's still same. And when I click, it makes beep noises. Please help me with this, thank you.

Hi Welcome to Microsoft community.I understand that you are facing the issue of keyboard buttons not working. You can try the following steps to narrow down the scope of the problem first.

    1. Check for Stuck Keys: Sometimes a stuck key can cause the keyboard to become unresponsive. Gently press each key to ensure none are stuck.
    2. Turn Off Filter Keys:
      • Windows has a feature called Filter Keys which can cause the keyboard to ignore brief or repeated keystrokes.
      • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.
      • Ensure that Filter Keys is turned off.
    3. Check Keyboard Connections:
      • For the pluggable keyboard, ensure that it is securely connected to the USB port.
      • Try plugging it into a different USB port to rule out a port issue.
    4. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:
      • Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it.
      • Find "Keyboards" and expand the list.
      • Right-click on the keyboard device and select "Update driver".
      • If updating doesn’t work, you can try uninstalling the driver and then restarting your laptop, which will prompt Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
    5. Disable Beep Sound:
      • The beep sound usually indicates keyboard input errors.
      • Open Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
      • Go to the "Sounds" tab, find "Default Beep", and set the sound to "None".
    6. Run Keyboard Troubleshooter:
      • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find "Keyboard" and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix any issues.
    7. Test in Safe Mode:
      • Boot your computer in Safe Mode to see if the keyboard works there.
      • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
      • Go to the Boot tab, check "Safe boot", and restart your computer.
      • If the keyboard works in Safe Mode, there might be a software conflict causing the issue.
    8. Check for Malware:
      • Sometimes malware can interfere with keyboard functionality.
      • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any other reputable antivirus software.
    9. External Keyboard Test:
      • If possible, try using a different external keyboard to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the keyboard or the laptop itself.
    10. System Restore:
      • If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your system to a point before the problem began.
      • Go to Settings > System > Recovery and select "Open System Restore".

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem.Let me know if you need further assistance.Best regardsDerrick Qian | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
