Im on a lenovo laptop, I have had this issue for a long time now. Dont know what causes it, but both of the keys are not working, sometimes the issue resolves itself for sometime, then it comes back. Tried many solutions i found here, none seemed to work.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

    Re: Ctrl keys not working

What I have done so far to remedy the problem:

    1. Keyboard troubleshooter is not available in Settings. I have used (msdt.exe -id KeyboardDiagnostic) in Command Prompt and no issues were found.
    2. All Windows updates are current, as well as uninstalling keyboard driver and rebooting.
    3. Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys are disabled.
    4. I do not have another keyboard, but I have used the onscreen keyboard, and I am able to use the Ctrl keys there, and they do function. But this is not a viable alternative as replacement for natural keyboard.
    5. I have removed Ctrl key caps and cleaned any possible debris.

This issue started a couple months ago after a Windows update but I can't say exactly which one. It started as an intermittent issue, but quickly became permanent. All other keys work fine. It is only the Ctrl keys that stopped working.

Also, when following your instructions above, after selecting more troubleshooters there is no Keyboard option

    Hi Nandor,

It would be better if you have an external keyboard to try and test if the Ctrl keys are working without any issue. However, in the meantime, try to go to the Lenovo Support Website and look for your laptop's specific model and check if there's any driver updates available and make sure to install it. If you also have the Lenovo Vantage app installed on your computer, try to run both Hardware and System Update. Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi!

    Thanks for the response!

I have tried all of the solutions above, none seemed to work. I don't have an external keyboard available right now either.

Hello! I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Please make sure Windows is up-to-date. Click Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for Updates and install any available updates. Then, click on Advanced Options > Optional Updates and download and install new updates as well.

Please check if you have sticky keys and filter keys enabled and try disabling them to see if it fixes the issue. Go into Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard > Turn off Sticky Keys and Filter Keys.

You can also try running the Keyboard Troubleshooter. Press Windows key + R to open Run command window. Type ms-settings:troubleshoot and hit Enter. Click Other Troubleshooters, scroll down and look for Keyboard and run the corresponding troubleshooter.

If the problem still persists, try to connect an external keyboard to your laptop to isolate the issue and check if the Ctrl keys work. Let me know how it goes. Thank you.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

    Best Regards!

    Jen :)
