Windows not allowing monitor driver manual update.

There is no standard way to replace the monitor drivers that works. The old ways always revert back to a 2006 driver version and they wont recognize the new drivers when I browse the file. How do you get Microsoft to pull their head out and fix this issue where we can load manufacturer drivers that we have downloaded from THE MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE. And the driver is signed certified.

There is no "old" way or "new" way.

There is only ONE STANDARD way which you don't understand. The ranking system has been in place forever. And the 2006 date is a backdating method which doesn't mean it was written in 2006.

    https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20170208-00/?p=95395

This is also the same ranking system that Intel uses to backdate their chipset inf drivers to 1968 (the year Intel was founded).

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000095169/processors.html

If your computer is not accepting the monitor's "driver". It generally means that the driver is ranked below Microsoft's driver.

Since the ranking system has been the same forever, it means:

    1. your monitor manufacturer doesn't know how to write the drivers according to the ranking system or
    2. that driver is not for your monitor or for your OS or
    3. Microsoft's driver is better. Since Microsoft backdates all the drivers to 2006, it doesn't mean your 2015 driver is "newer" or "better" than the 2006 driver. That Microsoft 2006 driver could be written in 2020 that is newer and better than your 2015 driver.

This is a well-thought-out ranking system you don't understand.

    Hi M K,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

In your description, you are having problems installing the monitor driver manually. Did you get any errors reported during the installation? What did you encounter that prevented you from installing this driver?

Meanwhile, please check if the extension of the driver you downloaded is .inf, if not, it may need you to unzip it, please let us know the extension of this file.

You can try to try to install your driver manually by following the steps below:

1 Download your driver to a local disk, then search for it in the taskbar and open Device Manager, find your current monitor driver, right-click, select “Update Driver”, then select “Browse My Computer for Drivers”.

2 On the “Select from Computer List” screen, click “Let me select from the list of available drivers on my computer” at the bottom.

3 On the “Select a device driver to install for this hardware” screen, check to see if there is another driver you can choose from, and if so, check to see if it is the one you downloaded.

4 If not, please click “Install from Disk” at the bottom right, and in the newly opened page, click “Browse” at the bottom right, and then find the driver you downloaded and try to install it.

Check if the above steps can help you to install the driver you downloaded, if not, please let me know the name of your driver and I will provide you with further assistance.

    Best regards,
