There is no "old" way or "new" way.
There is only ONE STANDARD way which you don't understand. The ranking system has been in place forever. And the 2006 date is a backdating method which doesn't mean it was written in 2006.

This is also the same ranking system that Intel uses to backdate their chipset inf drivers to 1968 (the year Intel was founded).

If your computer is not accepting the monitor's "driver". It generally means that the driver is ranked below Microsoft's driver.
Since the ranking system has been the same forever, it means:
- your monitor manufacturer doesn't know how to write the drivers according to the ranking system or
- that driver is not for your monitor or for your OS or
- Microsoft's driver is better. Since Microsoft backdates all the drivers to 2006, it doesn't mean your 2015 driver is "newer" or "better" than the 2006 driver. That Microsoft 2006 driver could be written in 2020 that is newer and better than your 2015 driver.
This is a well-thought-out ranking system you don't understand.
