I am having great difficulties with T-Mobile. They have not been too responsive contacting us on what issues they're having with towers. My internet and streaming are non existant, thinking of going to Verizon for service but Hulu saids my ip address is wrong, thoughts?

    Hi, Rick B.1

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are experiencing problems with an incorrect IP address, and to change your IP address you have a few options depending on whether you are connecting to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Here is how to change your IP address:

    1. Reboot the router:

    ○ Turning the router off and on will sometimes provide you with a new IP address.

    ○ Unplug the router from the power source, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in.

    2. DHCP Issuance and Renewal:

    ○ In Windows 11, you can release and renew your IP address by going to Network and Sharing Center.

    ○ In Network and Sharing Center, click “Change Adapter Settings” on the left side.

    ○ Right-click your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, select “Properties”, and then click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” or “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”. (TCP/IPv6)", depending on your network settings.

Click “Properties” and select “Use the following IP address”.

    ○ Enter the new IP address in the “IP Address” field.

    ○ Make sure the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway are set to the correct values.

    ○ Click OK, and then click OK again to close the properties.

    3. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP):

    ○ Typically, home network IP addresses are dynamic and provided by the ISP. If you are still experiencing problems, you may need to contact your ISP for assistance.

    4. Go to a public Wi-Fi network:

    ○ Connecting to a public Wi-Fi network sometimes provides you with a new IP address.

Please note that changing your IP address will not necessarily resolve your Internet or streaming issues with T-Mobile. If you are having problems with your Internet connection, it is best to contact T-Mobile or your ISP for further assistance.

    Best Regards

    Nicholas Z,

I managed to get as far as registerdns but it called for an "elevation" now I'm lost again. But I'm learning to navigate thanks to you.

Glad I don't have Hulu, because they're obviously stupid.

That's really just the way that T-Mobile's Home Internet works, since you're connecting via mobile network towers, so Hulu thinks you're not operating from your 'home' location and are instead mobile.

    Stupid, huh?

I've been on T-Mobile Home Internet for almost 2 years with the Netflix subscription they support currently costing me $7 less than it had directly from Netflix. I've had almost no issues with this setup, but I'm also located in a relatively low-traffic area that sees few network dropouts.

However, when I first got Home Internet, I noticed that T-Mobile might display my location as any of several regional network egress points including, Denver, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee and possibly others I don't recall. Roughly a year ago though, the location seemed to lock-in to Milwaukee, which though the closest to my true location is still roughly 100 miles away.

Having quickly read about the Hulu issues on the T-Mobile Community, it's easy to see that even my own situation might give Hulu problems, since they still seem to believe that the IP Address based networking idea actually tells you where someone's located, which has actually never been completely accurate. I won't go into details here but suffice it to say that as a past network administrator, I know how truly inaccurate this supposed 'system' truly is.

The thread I read on the T-Mobile Community may not be the most recent, but it covers this in enough detail with links to an Ars Technica article about it as well, that I assume you're probably having issues with Hulu + Live TV.

hulu +live does not work in t-mobile internet | T-Mobile Community

In general, though if your T-Mobile address stays relatively stable as coming from that Portland address, it may work for Hulu once you contact them to explain your issue, if it does then change again, Hulu's relatively useless policy will eventually have problems with some changes that are coming to Microsoft's own Edge browser and how that works on Windows 10 or 11 machines, since it has already shown a tendency to display locations far from where you're truly located. We'll see how long Hulu tries to maintain this policy once that begins to happen to potentially millions of Windows customers.

    Hi, Rick

    Thank you for your reply!

It should be explained that your IP address is provided by your provider and depends on whether your network is private or public, so it's not something we can look up.

In addition, since the Microsoft Community is a public forum, please be careful not to disclose your personal information.

You can try the following option to reset your network, in which case the system will reassign you an IP address:

    1. Search for CMD, open it and find Command Prompt (, run it in administrator) mode.
    2. In the command box that pops up, enter the following commands in order (after each line runs, enter the next one) ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset netsh winhttp reset proxy
    3. Reboot your computer.

If you still have the problem after trying the above solutions, please contact T-mobile officials.

    Best Regards
