I've been trying to get my laptop connected to my tv but every time I plug in the hdmi, nothing happens.

When I restart my computer it gets stuck on a black screen but it connects to my tv for a moment before it goes black again and the laptop shuts off. After many failed boots (Laptop just turns off again), it shows the windows recovery screen.

I've tried searching for new graphics drivers but there are none and there's no hdmi settings on my tv

    Hello, Shae_

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

We're sorry to hear that you're having issues with your laptop's HDMI connection. Before we get to that, could you please include your computer model here so we can research it for you.

Let's troubleshoot your issue step by step:

    1. Check the basics:

Make sure the HDMI cable is securely plugged into both the laptop and the TV.

If possible, try using a different HDMI cable.

Make sure your TV is set to the correct input source (usually labeled HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.).

    1. Restart and reconnect:

    Restart your laptop and TV.

Once both devices have fully booted up, connect the HDMI cable again.

    1. Display settings:

Press Windows + P on your keyboard to open display settings.

Select the appropriate display mode (such as Duplicate or Extend) to use the TV as a secondary display. Duplicate should be selected.

    1. Update your graphics driver:

Open Device Manager (search in the Windows search bar).

    Expand the Display adapters section.

Right-click the display adapter and select Uninstall device. Check the box to remove the driver software.

Restart your laptop and Windows will automatically reinstall the graphics driver.

You can also manually download and install the most recent graphics driver from the HP Support website . You can provide your computer model here and I will search for you.

    1. Sound output settings:

Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound Settings".

Under "Output", select HDMI output as the default device.

    1. BIOS and driver updates:

Update the laptop's BIOS, chipset, and audio drivers from the HP Support website .

You can do all the steps above, and if your computer has a DP interface, you can use DP to HDMI to connect to the TV.

    Best regards
