[Solved] Taskbar window peeking not working

Hello! Whenever i have a window opened and it shows open in the taskbar, when i hover on the open window's icon on the taskbar it only shows it's name in a little label tag and it doesn't let me preview that specific window without me needing to switch to it, for an example with alt+tab.

Note: By the way, like 5 months ago, this feature was working perfectly.

I have opened the windows "Adjust the performance and appearance of windows" thing, i selected the option "Adjust for best appearance" and it enabled all the options, including the "Enable peek" one, but it just does still not allow me to preview my windows. The taskbar window previewing works on all local accounts of the device, but not for the main one i use.

I have tried restarting my explorer, updating windows (which probably still wouldn't help), and still nothing. I also use some tweaking software (Winaero Tweaker) but i turned off pretty much all tweaks that affect visual stuff. I really don't think that some third-party software could be ruining the built-in windows taskbar window peeking option, i pretty much did everything i could to fix this problem, but as i already mentioned lots of times, it just won't work.

I need some professional help lol. I also have tried all the solutions/fixes from this post: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/taskbar-peek-enabled-in-settings-but-not-working/04b687a0-31e6-4e90-adc5-aab00303cfb3 however again, none of them helped. If anyone has a solution to fix this, i'd appreciate for them to tell me. Thank you and have a good day/night.

    Hello, Aron Gaspar

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your feedback. I read the information you provided. You mentioned that your preview window is not displaying. I noticed that you have tried a few things but the problem persists, which is really frustrating.

Don't worry, you can also try the following methods that will also help you with your current problem.

    1. Enable Taskbar Thumbnails in System Advanced Settings

Press "Win + X" to open Windows shortcut menu.

    Click "System".

On the System > About page, click the Advanced System Settings link.

The "System Properties" box will open

On the Advanced tab, find Performance and click Settings.

In the Visual Effects tab, find the following settings:

    Save taskbar thumbnail preview

    Show thumbnails instead of icons

Make sure they are turned on, click Apply, and then click OK to save the changes.

    1. Use Group Policy Editor to turn on Taskbar Thumbnail Preview (if you have a professional version of windows 11 installed)

Go to "Start Menu" and type "gpedit.msc" and click "Enter".

In the Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to "User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar".

On the "Standard" tab that appears at the bottom of the interface, find "Turn off taskbar thumbnails" and double-click it.

Make sure this option is not enabled

    1. Finally, I noticed that "Taskbar Window Preview applies to all local accounts on the device, but not to the primary account I use".

You can also try to create a new local account and then transfer your current account configuration data to the new account. For how to create a new local account and how to transfer account configuration data, you can refer to the link below.

Hello! I had tried everything you listed, but it didn't work. By the way, i didn't mention, but when i was 2 windows open of the same program, for an example, i have 2 explorers open, i can CLICK on the icon and it will show the 2 open windows of that program, and there i can also preview the specified window by hovering my mouse on it. This just doesn't work if there is ONE window open of the program. I'd really try out more solutions if there are any more. Thank you for trying to help tho.

PS: I did not try the third step because i didn't understand it too well and i don't wanna risk deleting or modifying system files.
