Ping Is High on Only One Device- How to Fix?

Hi-

I have been getting abnormally high ping on only one device in the house (60+) whereas every other device sits at a comfortable 18-20.

I have tried just about everything; scanning for malware, restarting/resetting the router, updating drivers, troubleshoot scanning, etc. and nothing has fixed the issue.

I had found articles about this issue in the past, but the system settings are outdated and the solutions did not work for me so was just looking for a more current solution.

Thank you in advance to anyone who replies!

    Thank you for your reply

First, the Ping value of your device connecting to the game server consists of two parts, one is the delay of the data packet sent by your device to reach the router, and the other is the delay of the data packet passing through the switch on the Internet to reach the game server.

So, please search some ping value test websites to check what your two parts of delay are.

For the first part of the delay, you can try the following methods.

    1. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet and the connection is stable. If you are using a proxy server or VPN, try disabling them.
    2. Using a different DNS server may improve the connection quality.

Open the "Network and Sharing Center" and select your network connection.

Click "Properties", select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties".

Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the following addresses:

    Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8

Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4 (These are Google's public DNS servers )

    1. If your device can use a wired connection, try using a wired connection (Ethernet) instead of a Wi-Fi connection to rule out the possibility of wireless interference.

For the second part of the delay, there is little you can do. We cannot control the transmission of data packets on the Internet. You can try these methods.

Try connecting to a different game server to see if there is any improvement.

Use the in-game server selection tool to choose a server closer to you.

    Best regards

    Brian

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply!

The issue moreso occurs during gaming and my connection to gaming servers. I have been experiencing packet loss, and with the high ping it makes it near impossible to perform in or play certain games.

Hopefully this answers your question, let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

    Hello, h3lpm3please

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thanks for your feedback. I read the information you provided. You mentioned that one of your devices has an unusually high ping value.

First, please tell me whether your ping value is the latency of connecting to other devices in the local area network or the latency of connecting to websites on the Internet?

Also, why do you need to test the ping value? Is it because you need to connect to some special server?

I look forward to your reply.

    Best regards
