Hi,

I have previously used the Windows 11 mobile hotspot with no issues.

Currently I'm facing an issue that prevents me from turning the mobile hotspot on. Once I click the slider button to turn it on after a few seconds (1~3 seconds) the slider goes back to the off position with no apparent reason or warning. I'm trying to share my WIFI connection on 5GHz with devices for 2.4GHz.

Here is a list of what I have tried so far:

  • Restaring the hotspot service
  • Rollback wifi adapter drivers
  • Restart windows
  • Wifi driver update
  • Unchecking and checking the network adapter sharing option

Here is some system info:

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 23H2

Installed on ‎2/‎10/‎2023

OS build 22631.3737

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1009.0

Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Wifi Adapter Info:

    Hi Martin,

I have tried options 2 and 3 without any success.

On option 2 de repair logs did found corrupt files but not the offending one in the event viewer:

2024-07-01 11:05:40, Info DEPLOY [Pnp] Corrupt file: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\rndismp6.sys

2024-07-01 11:05:40, Info DEPLOY [Pnp] Repaired file: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\rndismp6.sys

2024-07-01 11:05:41, Info DEPLOY [Pnp] Corrupt file: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\usb80236.sys

2024-07-01 11:05:41, Info DEPLOY [Pnp] Repaired file: C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\usb80236.sys

Option 1 unfortunately only shows restore points that are after the error started.

    Any other options?

    Best Regards,

    Pedro Medeiros

    Hi Martin,

The band was already set to 2.4GHz. I tried switching it back and forward but no success.

In the adapter settings the Preferred Band was already set to No Preferences as well, again switching back and forward did not produce any noticeable difference.

Any other ideais? Any fix/restore I can apply to the network modules of windows?

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Pedro Medeiros

    Dear pedroply,

Thank you for your prompt response and for sharing the event viewer log. The svchost.exe process, specifically svchost.exe_SharedAccess, pertains to services running from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs), including ipnathlp.dll. This is associated with the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service and Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing service.

I conducted tests on my own system and encountered a similar issue where the switch turns off shortly after being activated. To address this, I found the following steps effective:

    1. Navigate to Mobile Hotspot Settings and adjust the frequency from 5GHz to 2.4GHz. After making this adjustment, attempt to toggle the switch back on. This resolved the issue in my case.
    2. Alternatively, you can access Control Panel by searching for it in the Start menu. Navigate to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center. Click on "Change Adapter Settings" on the left-hand side. Locate your network adapter (typically labeled with your model, such as Intel xxx), right-click on it, and choose Properties > Configuration > Advanced tab > Properties. Look for the Preferred Band setting and set it to 'No Preferences'.

I hope these steps prove effective in resolving your situation as well.

    Dear pedroply,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thank you for reaching out and providing a detailed overview of your issue with the mobile hotspot on Windows 11. I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you're experiencing, but I'm here to help!

Based on what you've described and the troubleshooting steps you've already tried, it seems like a more specific issue might be causing the mobile hotspot to turn off abruptly. Here are some additional steps you can take to hopefully resolve the issue:

    1. Check Power Management Settings: Sometimes, the power management settings on your PC might turn off the Wi-Fi adapter to save power, which can affect the mobile hotspot. Go to Device Manager, expand the "Network adapters" section, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select "Properties." Go to the "Power Management" tab and make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
    2. Reset Network Settings: If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, you might want to reset all network settings. This can help clear out any glitches that are not resolved by restarting your device or updating drivers. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
    3. Event Viewer: Check the Event Viewer for any specific logs that relate to the Wi-Fi adapter or the mobile hotspot service around the time it turns off. This might give you more insight into what is causing the hotspot to fail. To access Event Viewer, search for it in the Start menu, and then navigate to Windows Logs > System.
    4. Antivirus and Security Software: Occasionally, security software can interfere with network services. Temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall software to test if it’s impacting the mobile hotspot functionality. Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off antivirus protection. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed.

If these steps still do not resolve your problem, it might be helpful to consider restoring your system to a previous point where the hotspot functioned correctly, or even reaching out to a professional for a more hands-on diagnostic. Please try these additional steps and let me know how it goes. I’m here to assist you further if needed!

    Best Regards,
