Excel consistently crashes on my 14900K. I changed threads under Options>Advanced>Formulas to 16 and it doesn't crash. I suspect it has to do with Excel not liking the difference between the P cores and E cores.
Windows11, Intel i9-14900K, Application Crashing Events
Hi there, im absolutely pulling my hair out on this one.
Just got a brand new PC running Windows11 and with an i9-14900K processor.
I have had numerous Application Crashing Events as captured by the Event Viewer where applications shutdown without warning.
Its only single applications that die whilst the rest of the system is fine.
the main application crashes have been ...
- Excel.exe
- wintrv.exe (Bloomberg)
- From the logs there has also been capplication crashes in acrobat.exe, dwm, exe, mstreams.exe. svchost.exe, ROGLiveService.exe but these dont happen often
Ive done many hardware tests including ...
- Ran OCCT 3D Standard, Shader Complexity 3 .. no errors
- Ran OCCT 3D Standard, Shader Complexity 5 .. no errors
- Ran OCCT VRAM @ 80% … no errors
- Ran Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool test .. no errors
- Updated the BIOS for my motherboard ASUS Pro WS W680-ACE with current version 3603, 27/05/2024
- My IT guy says hardware is rock solid, and the BIOS update should fix any known issues with Power surges etc
Chatting to Bloomberg Enterprise HELP desk recently they mentioned the following ...
- Many customers with 13th and 14th generation i9 processors are complaining of a similar issue
- Diasabling 'Turbo Boost' seems to fix the issue
Questions? ...
- Has anyone experienced similar Application Crashing Events?
- Any fix except for disbaling 'Turbo Boost' .. the reason i got an i9 was for the clockspeed which makes all Excel calculations much faster
- Is this a know Issue and will it be fixed by Microsoft?
- Any other ideas?
- At worst, will altering the Power Mode fix this?

2024-06-19T12:14:17+00:00 Can you set the bios to a known good default and make sure XMP for the memory is disabled. Does that make any difference.
Are you using all the motherboard manufacturers drivers or system manufacturers drivers?
