Windows 10 Search Bar Not Working

My search bar has stopped working recently, and now my start menu has too. People online on other forums said to uninstall the most recent windows 10 updates, and I got my start menu back, but my search bar is still not working. I tried to use a keep hidden windows 10 updates program, but the update just got reinstalled. How do I fix this? When I ran a powershell command in cmd administrator, i got an error saying that start menu experience host was running and the command couldn't be ran. Any help is appreciated.

Hello there, I'm Gopal an Independent Advisor. I will try my best to help you.

Did you encounter any error messages when trying to use the search bar or start menu? Please try the following steps and see if that helps

    1. Run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter

Press the Windows key + R to open the run command.

Type "msdt.exe -ep WindowsHelp id SearchDiagnostic" and Hit Enter.

Run the troubleshooter and select any problems that apply. Windows tries to detect and solve those problems.

    1. Restart Windows Search

Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and then select Task Manager.

    In Task Manager, select Details.

In the Name column, right-click SearchUI.exe, and then select End task.

When you're prompted to end SearchUI.exe, select End process.

    1. Run SFC and DISM Tools

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.

In the Task Manager window, click on the "File" menu.

Select "Run new task" from the dropdown menu.

In the "Create new task" window, type "cmd" (without quotes) and check the "Create this task with administrative privileges" checkbox.

Press Enter or click on the "OK" button.

In the command prompt type the below command and hit Enter to continue.

    sfc /scannow

Please do not close the command line window until you see the message verification is 100% completed.

After that, type the following commands and hit Enter to continue.

    DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

When it is finished, restart the computer and see if the issue persists.

I hope this will help you to sort out the issue. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you!

    Regards,

    Gopal

    Hi Gopal

I am having the same problem with Search - Windows won't allow me to click into the box to type anything. I was going to try your suggestion above, but the entry I have in Task manager/Details/Name is SerchIndexer. I cannot see any entry called SearchUI
