Windows 11 File History

Windows 11 23H2 22631.3672

Here's a new one has anyone else seen this?

System uses an attached USB (6Tb drive) for backup and file history purposes.

File History is set to run "Daily" which it does not do, and I've reported this before.

A little while ago, I went into File History >Advanced Settings>Cleanup > Cleanup all but latest and got this Pop up window from Windows saying it could not do so because element not found.

This is an attached USB drive guess I need new glasses...it says element not found....I thought it said ethernet....but anyways why is File History not working?

    i use windows 11 pro 32H2 build 22631.3672.

google says: the *mui files where shift to SystemResources and renamed to mun files!

my windows 11 does it, BUT the file user32.dll.mui has MS forgotten to shift and rename, although FileHistory searches it in the new directory.

repair installation does not correct this, the bug is apparently in windows 11

Using ProcMon i got this information:

    • FileHistory cleanup searches the file USER32.dll.mun in the directory C:\Windows\SystemResources, but there isn't it!
    • FileHistory backup doesn't need this file
    • nowhere in drive c: is a file user32*mun, but some user32.dll.mui
    • i tried to copy from c:\Windows\SysWOW64\de-DE\ to C:\Windows\SystemResources. But it is not possible, because the target directory is heavy protected (write enabled only for trusted installer)!
    • repair installing windows 11 has no effect, even things like sfc, diskcleanup ...

Question: where to get the desired file and how to store it in the target directory?

Yes I use Backup/restore (Windows 7) as well. File History used to work but as of late the "Automatic Daily" function doesn't work. Then if you hit "run now" it'll create a file of Everything again thus wasting space on the drive. Well maybe it's time to do a clean install again...

Look at this in the Control Panel. Backup and Restore (Windows 7). This is what I am using. See if it will work for you and what you want to accomplish.

    My latest backup.

I tried File History too and could never get it to work.

Seems to be an ongoing issue with Windows 11 File History. Mine is the same (using a NAS drive) and all fixes tried from the internet fail.
