Hello

I have a few questions about VMware

  1. Is VMware pro now really free for personal use?
  2. Once I had it installed and it added a network, is it ok?

3.Is it ok to use VMware?

  1. Is it better to use VMware or hyper - v?
  2. Can I have hyper - v enabled and install VMware with Windows hypervisor platform?

Also I tried installing windows 11 in a VM in hyper - v but I couldn't start the installation because I couldn't use my mouse and keyboard, how can I fix it? Shouldn't I try to use VMware instead of hyper - v

The information in point one above is wrong.

Refer to the VMware blog VMware Workstation Pro: Now Available Free for Personal Use

Of course, here is how you can ensure that integration services are enabled in Hyper-V:

    Open Hyper-V Manager:

Press Win + X and select "Hyper-V Manager".

Or search for "Hyper-V" in the Start menu and open Hyper-V Manager.

    Select the Virtual Machine:

In the left pane, select the VM you want to check for integration services.

In the central pane, right-click the VM and select "Settings".

    Check Integration Services:

In the VM settings menu, look for the "Integration Services" or "Integration Components" option (usually found in the "Management" section).

Click on "Integration Services" and ensure all options are checked, especially "Guest Services", "Time Synchronization", and "Data Exchange".

    Enable Integration Services:

If any options are unchecked, check them and click "OK" or "Apply" to save the changes.

    Restart the VM:

After enabling integration services, restart the VM to ensure the changes take effect.

If you still have issues, here are some additional steps:

    Update Hyper-V Integration Services:

For older or non-Windows VMs, you might need to install or update Integration Services manually. Insert the Integration Services setup disk into the VM and follow the installation instructions.

    Use Remote Desktop (RDP):

Connect to the VM using RDP. This often resolves issues with the mouse and keyboard, especially during the OS installation.

If following these steps doesn't resolve the problem, please let us know and we can explore other solutions.

    Best,

    Alan

Hi, How are you? I am Alan, Microsoft Expert, an Independent Advisor. I will be happy to assist you today. I appreciate your contact!

Sure, here are the translated responses to your questions about VMware and Hyper-V:

    1. Is VMware Pro now really free for personal use?

VMware Workstation Pro is not free. However, VMware Workstation Player, which is a simpler version of Workstation Pro, is available for free for personal and non-commercial use. The Workstation Player is sufficient for most personal virtualization needs.

    1. After installation and adding a network, is everything okay?

Yes, after installing VMware Workstation Player or Pro and configuring the network, you should be ready to create and manage virtual machines. Network configuration may involve choosing between modes like "Bridged," "NAT," or "Host-Only," depending on your needs.

    1. Can I use VMware?

Yes, you can use VMware to create and manage virtual machines. If you are using it for personal purposes, VMware Workstation Player is a good free option. If you need more advanced features, such as multiple snapshots, corporate VM integration, and more, you might consider purchasing VMware Workstation Pro.

    1. Is it better to use VMware or Hyper-V?

The choice between VMware and Hyper-V depends on your specific needs:

    VMware Workstation:

Generally considered easier to use, with a user-friendly interface.

Better support for different guest operating systems.

More suitable for users needing a desktop virtualization solution.

    Hyper-V:

Integrated into Windows, especially in Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

Good integration with Microsoft’s server ecosystem.

Efficient performance and robustness for production and more demanding test environments.

For personal use and simplicity, VMware might be the better choice. For corporate integration and performance, Hyper-V might be preferable.

    1. Can I enable Hyper-V and install VMware with the Windows hypervisor platform?

It is not recommended to use Hyper-V and VMware Workstation simultaneously, as both use hypervisor technologies that can conflict. Hyper-V uses hardware-based virtualization technology, which can interfere with VMware’s operation.

Issues with Hyper-V and Windows 11

Regarding the installation of Windows 11 in a VM on Hyper-V and the inability to use the mouse and keyboard:

Check Integration Services: Ensure that Hyper-V integration services are installed and functioning in the VM. This should resolve mouse and keyboard issues.

VM Settings: Verify the VM settings to ensure input devices are configured correctly.

Drivers: Make sure the correct drivers are installed in the VM.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be worth trying to use VMware Workstation to create the Windows 11 VM, especially if you find VMware more user-friendly.

If you need more details or help with any of these points, please let me know!
