Hello, my fingerprint no longer works on my Windows 7, it appears as unavailable. I tried updating the biometric devices as other threads suggested, but even after restarting my computer, it still doesn't work. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14ALC7 and the current sensor that I see is the "EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor". Not having the fingerprint work is frustrating, please help.

Hi Iman, I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand you're having issues with your laptop's fingerprint sensor. I'm here to help. Have you tried reinstalling the fingerprint driver again?

If you haven't tried it yet, please follow these steps to reinstall the driver:

    > Right-click the Start and select "Device Manager."

    > Expand Biometric devices. Right-click the EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor and select "Update driver."

    > Click "Browse my computer for drivers."

    > Click "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer."

    > Click the driver listed under Model. Click "Next" to install and click "Close."

    > Press Windows + L key to lock your PC and check if issue persists. If it does please restart your PC and try the steps again.

Let me know how it goes. If issue persists please please provide more details by clicking "Reply" below.

Hello, thank you for your answer but this solution did not work. Furthermore, the biometric device bar does not exist anymore on my device manager, even when I go under hidden devices. I tried to reinstall biometric devices by going to Windows Services and starting the Windows Biometric Services, but it still does not exist. Is there another solution?

    Thank you!

    Hi John,

My fingerprint reader stopped working with my latest Microsoft update. I am on Windows 11 and have a Lenovo Yog 9 Series. Prior to this, I have always logged on with my fingerprint reader with now issues.

Under Device Manager > Biometric devices, I don't have EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor at all?

    Can you help?

    Kind regards,

    Jenny Barton

I followed the directions to" Expand Biometric devices. Right-click the EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor and select "Update driver.....  Expand Biometric devices. Right-click the EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor and select "Update driver.""

What has happened is that now the whole section of "biometric devices" has vanished fro m my Device Manager.

I've tried using the Lenovo update to reinstall the driver. It says that the driver has been successfully installed, but I cannot get biometric devices to appear again. I have restarted multiple times.

    So frustrated.

On my system this only solves the problems temporarily. I'm running a Lenovo Thinkbook 14s Yoga with Windows 11 after upgrading from Windows 10. Resetting the driver as explained gets the fingerprint sensor working again, but only for a few days (or hours if I'm extra lucky). Then I'm back to square one. I haven't been able to determine the precise cause, but the obvious guess is Windows Update.

This problem never occurred with Windows 10 and immediately started after I upgraded to Windows 11. I can rule out hardware issues, since the driver reset trick works every single time. All my drivers and the BIOS are up to date.

It's really frustrating, becasue this is a prototypical situation where Microsoft will most likely blame Lenovo and vice versa. And it's not like I'm running a decade old system. I bought the laptop in 2021 when it was relatively new on the market and the Windows 11 upgrade became available no later than 2022. Both companies should realize that this is basically free advertisement for Apple.
