Microsoft Edge Webview running a lot in task manager

In Search, there aren't usually that many processes in it, like 3 or 4, but now, there are 14.

A lot of it is Microsoft Edge WebView2. I noticed this was added to the weather app which makes it a lot like a web browser due to all the ads. It's really annoying when all I want is the weather but there are a bunch of ads on the side and even on the bottom. The app doesn't even show up to the right location anymore.

Search isn't the only problem though, also noticed these:

I don't use Microsoft Teams.

Don't know if this has anything to do with disk usage being high, but I double-checked right now and disk usage is at a normal level.

I thought since this is the first time this has happened, it might've been an update. So I checked the update history, and there was an update for today:

Intel(R) Corporation - Extension - 1.0.3045.0

I hope this is not part of the update, and if it is then I hope Microsoft removes it.

Thank you!

It was not very helpful for me. I have 2 applications - Teams and Outlook and it slows down my performance because of multiple sub-tasks. Analyzing the CPI and Memory I consume 61%.... reading e-mails... I'm frustrated...

As usual, Microsoft support with the generic non-response. Clean boot does nothing to fix the core issue. Edge is chrome, and chrome expects to use most of a systems resources. Rough example, but assume all PC resources = 1, you got edge using 0.6, outlook (another edge) using 0.6, and teams (another edge) using 0.6. Totals 1.8, or 180% system resources. Only official fix is to upgrade or buy a new PC, and repeat when M$ releases a major update.

"Let's fix outlook and skype teams by putting them inside a bloated web browser that expects to be the only thing running.", a very Mmicrosoft solution! No reason my web browser needs to hog everything, much less a chat or email client. It's quite literally laziness that we are relying on a bloated format originally intended to replace written articles and documents. Several layers of abstraction just to avoid having to write quality code, with the side effect that your hardware partners sell more computers because "my old one can't even run outlook anymore!" It makes Microsoft money in multiple ways with minimal effort, so they do it. Which is why you will never get help with this problem from Microsoft. If they wrote good code, you'd be able to run windows 11 and all this on a 15+ year old PC, which they REALLY don't want us doing!

It makes me wonder how many engineers will stick around once the new non-compete law lets them leave/start their own businesses.

Same here. Outlook and MS Teams consumes more than half of the compute. Do we have any standard recommendation to improve their performance?

I came here for the same reason.

It used to be when someone said "All I need to do is browse the web and read eamil" it meant they needed an entry level system.

Now that means a gaming rig just about!

Please fix this, I don't even have Edge open and it is using 3.500MB

    Same problem here.

How is Webview2 and Outlook consuming over half my pc resources?

My laptop fan is on all day long whirring away to keep up...
