My login page is now showing two accounts

My login page says "The username or password is incorrect. Try again." When I hit "ok" it shows two accounts, with the same name. Apparently they have different passwords. To my knowledge, I never set up a second account. When I look at settings/accounts it doesn't show two accounts, just one. How do I get rid of the second one on the login page - AND how to stop requiring password signin altogether? I live alone, and I never take my laptop anywhere, so there is no need for a password. I've already tried the obvious thing- turning off "Require sign-in" (set to "never") but it still requires me to sign in with a password. THANKS EVERYONE!!!~

Press Win + R, type control userpasswords2 and press Enter.

Disable the "Users must enter a username and password...." checkbox.

    Click Apply.

Now. select your user account from the list.

Enable the "Users must enter a username and password...." checkbox.

    Click Apply.

Type your account password when prompted, and click OK.

    Click OK.

That should enable automatic login and resolve the error "The username or password is incorrect. Try again." at startup.

    Kudos, Ramesh!!! 🀸🏽 πŸ€ΈπŸ½β€β™‚οΈ πŸ€ΈπŸ½β€β™€οΈ YAY!!!!

I had the same problem. The recent update imposed a mandatory login on users who previously had turned logins off . For some reason there were 2 accounts with the same name on my login page. The extra account made it impossible to deactivate the login requirement, & I couldn't find instructions for removing the extra account. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« Ramesh's answer made it easy to get rid of the extra acct. Then I could use Windows 11 Help to deactivate the login
