I appreciate your very helpful reply, which part answers my question. Thank you.
To purchase a new laptop having Windows 11 and get everything as is from my old pc using win 7
I am using a very old Packard Bell laptop running on Windows 7. I wish to purchase a brand new pc having latest Windows 11 and aim to replicate exact functionality of current device and transfer ALL of the data.
What is the best way of achieving this?
(I believe all data is presently backed up to the Norton cloud server.)
Also as an example, I have info on Word (2013) and once I've obtained a new computer presumably having latest Word programme - after transferring all data, I assume all my letters etc would be accessible on that latest version?
My present device would not support Windows 11; so an upgrade isn't feasible.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Ps As you can tell I'm not that tecky🤔

2024-06-24T18:25:38+00:00 In general, you can't just "transfer" application programs (like Microsoft Word) from one computer to another. You typically have to install them on the new computer using whatever installation media is available from the application's developer. Many of the larger brand-name computer manufacturers have options to include and pre-install Microsoft Office (of one type or another) when you purchase the computer.
At one point, Microsoft offered a discount (no longer available) for Laplink PC Mover. This is a program that purports to be able to move many application programs from one computer to another. It's no longer free and I have no personal experience with this application. https://web.laplink.com/product/pcmover-professional/#tabs2
Microsoft Word is not part of Windows. That is, it will not be included on a new Windows 11 computer unless you pay extra for it when you buy the computer.
These days, Microsoft offers several different options for Word:
- Microsoft 365 free version: web-based Word, Excel, PowerPoint -- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web
- Microsoft 365: web-based subscription applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more; monthly or annual fee: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products
- Microsoft Office 2021 (2024 version coming): one-time purchase like your Word 2013: various editions with various applications included, see, e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office_2021 starting with https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/p/office-home-student-2021/cfq7ttc0h8n8?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
Documents created with Word 2013 will be accessible with any of the current versions of Word.
