Under settings I only have one user, me which is the admin, but in the File Explorer - OS(C) - Users I have: Admin, Default, Me, another version of me , & public.

No where does it tell me how to remove it & what happens when I do, as in what will I loose.

Thank you very much for reaching out! As an Independent Advisor and fellow Microsoft user, I'm more than happy to assist you.

    To Remove User Profiles:

    1. Open File Explorer:
      • Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
      • Navigate to C:\Users.
    2. Identify the User Profiles:
      • You will see folders for each user profile, such as AdminDefaultPublic, and your user profiles.
    3. Delete Unwanted User Profiles:
      • Note: Do not delete Default and Public folders as they are system folders and necessary for Windows operations.
      • Right-click on the user profile folder you want to delete (e.g., the other version of you) and select Delete.
    4. Remove User Profile from System Properties:
      • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Type SystemPropertiesAdvanced and press Enter.
      • In the System Properties window, under the User Profiles section, click on Settings.
      • Select the user profile you want to delete and click Delete. Confirm the action.
    • Deleting a user profile will remove all personal files, settings, and data associated with that profile. This includes documents, pictures, music, and any other files stored in that user's directories.
    • System Impact: Deleting system folders like Default and Public can cause system instability. These folders are used by Windows for default settings and shared data.

Before deleting any user profile, ensure you back up any important data you might need later. You also need to have administrator rights to delete user profiles.

Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!

Thanks for all of the suggestions, but it starts deleting the files & always stops & says it can't delete them because a file is being used even though I have nothing open. It did this in safe mode too. I'm going have to take it to someone with way more experience with Windows system & let them see what they can do.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Cheers,

    Jerry

Munkhbayar, thanks for this info, I tried deleting the additional user as mentioned here & it seemed to worked, then I re-booted the computer & opening file explorer & the other user is still there. It keeps telling me it can not delete the user because it is being used somewhere. Here are screen captures of these things.

could you try booting into safe mode and try deleting the user from there?

    I've provided the steps below:

Press the Windows logo key + R.

    1. Type msconfigin theOpenbox and then select OK.
    2. Select theBoottab.
    3. Under Boot options, check theSafe boot checkbox.
