How can I remove and make sure that the file “ WPSettings.dat” does not get created on my memory stick?

The file WPSettings.dat gets created and gives me grief. If I am using a memory stick to hold videos on my digital picture frame the picture frame seams to think it is a video file and stops with an error message and points to that file. If I get rid of it after a while It somehow seems to reappear and once again the videos stops. I am not sure if the picture frame created it or my laptop does if I add new files to play.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will be trying a different approach. While I don’t appear to be able to delete WPSettings.dat using my laptop I can delete it using my picture frame so I ordered memory sticks with a switch on them that will write protect the device. This way if I need to add/delete files from the memory stick I will re-enable writing, make my changes, then have the picture frame delete WPSettings.dat again, then write protect it once again. A brute force, low tech solution but it should work if the write protect does its job.

Yes, the write protect switch on my memory stick worked and I can now play all my videos on my picture frame without the pesky WPSettings.dat file rearing its head again.

Hi MartinBurger2. My name is Ivan, and I am an Independent Assessor. I'd be more than happy to assist you. I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Don't worry, I'll do everything I can to help you.

WPSettings.dat is usually a system file related to Windows Spotlight, a feature that displays background images on your Windows device.

    1. Disable System Protection: This prevents Windows from creating restore points on the USB flash drive.
    • Right-click on the USB flash drive, select "Properties" and then go to the "System Protection" tab.
    • Click "Disable System Protection" and confirm.
    1. Format the USB flash drive: This is a drastic measure but can effectively delete all files including WPSettings.dat. Back up important data before formatting.
    2. Use a different USB flash drive: If the problem persists, try using a different USB flash drive to see if the problem is limited to the current one.
    3. Check the digital photo frame settings: Explore the photo frame settings to see if there is an option to disable any feature that may be creating the file.
    4. Keep your antivirus and malware software up to date and scan your devices continuously.

I hope these points can help you solve the problem.
