Windows 10 Updates keeps getting stuck at 75% on new PC

I built a new desktop PC this last weekend and am having trouble getting Windows up to date on it. I did a clean install of Windows 10 Home 64bit on a new NVME M.2 SSD and things were going fine with updating the windows version until it gets to the "Feature update to Windows 10, version 22H2". It downloads and installs fine, but once I go to restart the PC to finish the updating process, it gets stuck at a "Working on Updates 75%. Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while." loading screen for hours, the last attempt I made lasted over 5hrs on this screen and didn't go any further. If I do a force shut down or restart my PC will tell me that is undoing the changes that were made, on the next start up. And so the cycle continues.

I have also encountered 2 errors while doing this:

"Something went wrong. Error Code 0xc06d007f"

And a blue screen with stop code: DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG

So far I've tried the following:

Downloading a Windows Update Assistant to do the updates instead of using the settings

Booting up with Secure Boot turned off in my BIOS

Wiping the M.2 SSD and doing another clean install of Windows 10

Switching off/on UAC

Removing any 3rd party antivirus software

These are my PC specs:

Motherboard: MSI Pro B650M-P Micro-atx

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-core 4.7Mhz

SSD: Rogueware NX200M 1TB M.2 PCIe 3.0 NVMe

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1650 Super 4GB

WIFI/Bluetooth: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265

RAM: 32GB (16x2) Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 5200MHz

PSU: Rogueware Reality Series 650W Fully Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply

Is there any advice on next steps I could take to try and get these updates completed? Or what might be causing them to get stuck?

    Please clarify the following:

    Since you are receiving the update "Feature update to Windows 10, version 22H2", it looks like you performed a clean install of an old version of Windows 10.

    Why not install the latest version (22H2) of Windows 10 directly?

    After finishing the Windows installation, have you installed all the drivers provided by MSI for your motherboard?

    Is the motherboard BIOS up to date?

    If you don't know how to check this, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

    Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    What is the current version of your Windows 10?

    • Press "Windows + R", type winver, and click OK.

    If you prefer, share a screenshot.

    Thanks for the clarifications.

    The version 1703 is around 7 years old. You will not be able to upgrade this version to a newer version as the upgrade will always fail. It's a long path from version 1703 to 22H2. There have been many updates.

    Your best option is to clean install the latest version directly.

    Your motherboard's BIOS is not updated. It may be why you were unable to install version 22H2.

    I suggest installing the latest stable version. On the MSI website, the latest stable version is "7E27v1A".

    I also suggest resetting the BIOS settings to default.

    (This procedure is different on each motherboard. Consult your motherboard manual if necessary. Manufacturers usually make the manual available in the support area of their websites.)

    Then, try installing the latest version (22H2) again using an installation media created using the Media Creation Tool.

    I suggest you try creating the installation media again. I once had problems installing the latest version because a problem occurred when the installation media was created. Some files became corrupted for some reason.

    Hi David,

    Thank you for the quick response!

    To clear some things up, I bought a windows 10 disk back in 2018 which I still have and have the license key for. At the time, using the media creation tool for the newest version of Windows 10 wasn't working for some reason, it kept failing to install. So I used the old to disk to install windows 10 which worked, but now of course, won't update to the latest version 22h2.

    I have download and installed all the necessary drivers for my motherboard to my knowledge. And as far as I know the BIOS is also up to date as well.
