I'm concerned about using/updating Windows Defender after CloudStrike...is it safe? Should I seek another antivirus program?

    Hello Hi,

    Good Day!!

I am Ramya, I am Happy to assist you today.

Your concern is understandable given the recent issues with CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor update. Don't worry that the issue has been identified and a fix has been deployed.

Updating Windows Defender on Windows 11 Enterprise edition should be safe. Windows Defender operates independently of CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor, so updating it should not cause any issues related to the recent CrowdStrike problem.

If you are still concerned, you might consider temporarily using another reputable antivirus program.

    Stay Safe.

    Thanks,

    Ramya

The company's name is actually CrowdStrike. They try to stop cyber attacks on corporate networks when their software detects that an attack is in progress. An update to CrowdStrike's software - specifically, a component that detects when an attack is imminent - caused a severe outage to their customers who use Windows. It isn't a virus and it doesn't affect Microsoft Defender at all. CrowdStrike has apologized, and is working with Microsoft to get affected systems back online.
