Speakers don't produce sound on my computer but used to

My computer speakers were fine then one day they stopped taking sound out. I tested it on another computer, a laptop and the speakers worked. I checked the device manager on the laptop and my computer and my laptop only had a High Definition Audio Device while my computer was missing it. On my computer, I only had NVIDIA High Definition Audio, NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM), Realtek(R) Audio, and Sonic Studio Virtual Speaker. How do I get the windows High Definition Audio Device or is that not the problem?

    Thanks for the clarifications.

In this case, the problem does not seem to be with Windows. I'm suspecting the Nvidia driver.

Audio transmitted over DisplayPort is managed by the Nvidia driver.

I suggest performing a clean install of the Nvidia driver as instructed below.

Download the latest driver for your graphics card from the Nvidia website. Then, use the free DDU tool to remove the current driver. Then, install the latest driver using the installer you downloaded.

(I suggest disconnecting from the internet during the entire procedure.)

    DDU: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-dr...

    Nvidia driver download: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

Then, see if the audio will work with the speaker connected to the monitor's audio output.

If the problem persists, let me know. Click on the "Reply" button below my reply.

If you need a tutorial for using DDU, I recommend the video below.

    Thanks for the clarifications.

Is the monitor connected to the motherboard's video output or the Nvidia graphics card's video output?

Also, share a screenshot of the devices in the Playback tab of the sound options.

    1. Press "Windows + R", type mmsys.cpl and press Enter;
    2. Select the "Playback" tab.

Use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

I await your reply. Click on the "Reply" button below my reply.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Please provide more details about the issue you are experiencing with sound in Windows.

You use an external speaker, correct?

If yes, does it have a standard audio connector (Jack connector) or USB connector, or is it connected via Bluetooth?

Is there an X in the speaker icon next to the clock?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

I await your reply. Click on the "Reply" button below my reply.
