Laptop's WiFi Speed Limited to 95 Mbps - Need Assistance

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my WiFi connection speed on one of my laptops. Despite having a high-speed internet connection, this particular laptop is not achieving speeds above 95 Mbps. Other devices on the same network are performing well and reaching higher speeds.

Here are some details that might help diagnose the issue:

  • The laptop in question used to do at least 250 Mbps
  • It runs on Windows 11.
  • I've tested the connection near the router, and there are no physical obstructions.
  • I've tried restarting the laptop and the router, but the issue persists.
  • The laptop's network drivers are up to date.
  • I’ve also checked the network adapter settings and ensured it is set to the highest available speed.

Additional Details:

  • On my other laptop(also windows 11), when I go to Network and Internet > Ethernet, it shows:
    • Manufacturer: Intel
    • Description: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (4) I219-V
    • Driver version: 12.19.2.60
    • Physical address (MAC): 54-EE-75-D0-C7-3B
  • However, on the laptop that is unable to pass 95 Mbps, it shows:
    • Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 100/100 (Mbps)
    • Link-local IPv6 address: fe80::e58f:ed88:6841 %15
    • IPV6 DNS servers: fe80::1250:72ff:fe35 %15 (Unencrypted)
    • IPv4 address: 192.168.0.167
    • IPv4 DNS servers: 192.168.0.1 (Unencrypted)
    • Manufacturer: Realtek
    • Description: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
    • Driver version: 9.1.412.2015
    • Physical address (MAC): E8-40-F2-F2-36-8D

This problem happened when I reinstalled windows.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this speed limitation and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Ethan

    I forgot to mention that the laptop that can't do more than 95Mbps is connected via Ethernet, and the cable is CAT 7 and Is not damaged. my other laptops get around 900Mbps when connected to the same cable. The laptop that can't do more than 95Mbps used to do 250Mbps on this cable.

    even though this laptop is old it used to do 250Mbps on the same Wifi network but now after reinstalling windows because of some problem with the SSD it does not go above 95Mbps

    If your network card is not gigabit 100/1000, unfortunately it will not reach more than that mbps.

    Hi, I tired everything you told me and i don't have another antivirus and it still doesnt work.

    I think the difference between both laptops is that on the laptop that's unable to go above 95Mbps is that it has "Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 100/100 (Mbps)

    • Link-local IPv6 address: fe80::e58f:ed88:6841 %15
    • IPV6 DNS servers: fe80::1250:72ff:fe35 %15 (Unencrypted)
    • IPv4 address: 192.168.0.167
    • IPv4 DNS servers: 192.168.0.1 (Unencrypted)" my other 2 laptops don't say that. Is there a way to remove that link speed? or to make it higher?

    My name is Jonathan Deives. I'm an Independent Advisor and I will be happy to help you today.

    Try going to the manufacturer's website and looking for the

    model of your system, download and install the latest network driver.

    If you are using a 3rd antivirus, temporarily uninstall it and see if the problem persists.

    Also run these network commands;

    Click on the start menu and type cmd

    Right click and run as administrator

    Copy, paste and enter each one, one at a time.

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh int ip reset

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig /flushdns
