Cd/DVD Drive is not recognized on my windows 10 PC.

Hi,

I've been having trouble viewing, and playing cd's or DVD's on my windows 10 computer.

The drive show up in my file explorer as a Cd /DVD drive. I have checked all the software for this. Have un installed it and reboot my system but it still the same problem. When I click on it , it tells me to insert a CD or DVD and it does nothing.

So I ordered an external DVD optical drive and connected it to my USB port and the same thing happens.

I have updated all the windows software so it is not an issue and in my boot drive is is recognized as well.

So I just tried to install an new program KM Player and it does not make a difference.

I've tried assigning different drive letters, uninstalling the device, reinstalling drivers and whatnot, but still the same issue. I can't find anything online to fix it either, i am truly confused!

The Hardware seems to be fine. I suspect it maybe a setting or Microsoft software that limits this. For the rest the PC is working fine. It seems that there are a number of people who have the same issue.

Please help.

Can you share with me the make and model you have so I can look into if there is a known repair for that model?

    Hi Reinwestrate,

I just want to make sure if you had done these steps to ensure your device is is not having any corruption issues. it was posted in the article but sometimes these steps get overlooked.

Please confirm if you have done the following steps logged in as an Admin (it wont work otherwise)

Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.

Type regedit in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or select Allow

In the navigation pane, locate and then select the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In the right pane, select UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.

On the Edit menu, select Delete.

When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, select Yes.

In the right pane, select LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, go to the next method.

On the Edit menu, select Delete.

When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, select Yes.

    Exit Registry Editor.

    Restart the computer.

Note: To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. To verify that you are signed in as an administrator, bring up the Control Panel, select User Accounts, and then choose Manage User Accounts.

    Important:

Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry in case of any possible issues that can occur.

If there are any issues after doing the above steps, please uninstall any software associated with the DVD/CD player, clear out your temp folder (go to start menu and type in %temp%, delete everything in the folder as admin, skip on anything that doesn't delete after that) and then reinstall the software.

Please let me know how these steps go!
