Hello pervert, I've sent this message from your Microsoft account. I want to inform you about a very bad situation for you. However, you can benefit from it, if you will act wisеly.Have you heard of Pegasus? This is a spyware program that installs on computers and smartphones and allows hackers to monitor the activity of device owners. It provides access to your webcam, messengers, emails, call records, etc. It works well on Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. I guess, you already figured out where I’m getting at.*****

This is a very common scam known as the bitcoin scam, sextortion scam, extortion scam and other names.

Don't contact the scammer. Don't pay anything.

If the message is not in your Sent folder (it won't be) it was not sent from your account. Your account was not hacked. No spyware programs were installed. The scammer simply put your address in the Sender field.

Delete the message and any similar messages you receive in the future.

The thing is that at the same time I received notifications from the McAFee antivirus software that the account was hacked. I received about 13 notifications. The question is if this means that it was indeed hacked or is it just false reports? How can I know about it?

Check for successful logins that weren't you.

Check the recent sign-in activity for your Microsoft account https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/check-the-recent-sign-in-activity-for-your-microsoft-account-5b3cfb8e-70b3-2bd6-9a56-a50177863357

If an email account had been hacked, the hacker would have quickly changed the password or even created a new alias and deleted the original address. You would not be able to login.

    1. I've had the same thing pop into my mailbox a few days ago.

When I select the email the Report function is blocked somehow.

When I've gone to look into the sign-in history there are about 50 unsuccessful attempts (that were not me!) over the last month.

    1. Is this normal or is my account being targeted for hacking?

I've changed my password to a complicated one so good luck to them trying.

    1. Is outlook putting these in the Inbox or in Junk?
    2. These login attempts are happening simply because your address is known. It's been harvested or posted on the web somewhere.
