It seems I suddenly need HEVC extensions to play video recorded on my iphone and transferred to my windows 11 laptop. Does any else get this problem? If I forward the video to friends will everyone else need to buy these extensions?

Hi there, I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand your frustration. This is a normal, and yes, if your friends are using Windows, they will need to pay $0.99 for the HEVC Video Extension. There used to be a free version of it here is the link: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9n4wgh0z6vhq?... but it has been disabled for some users and no longer works for Windows 11 if you get "This app will not work on your device" you may want to buy the paid version or you might want to try downloading VLC Media Player instead, it supports HEVC and is free to use.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions or concerns.

I hope this information is helpful.

    John J.D.

    Hi John

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that link won't install and says 'This app will not work on your device'.

I have to disagree when you say it is normal, because I have been uploading videos from my iphone for years and they have always worked until now -and just checked, they still do. The last one I checked was done in May and that did and still does work fine, so seems to me this is one of those 'improvements' that cost the customer time, money and inconvenience.

but thanks for the link to download VLC instead. Dowloaded it without problems and it works fine.
