Error Code 0x800704cf and Microsoft account issues, when trying to log in to Microsoft applications

"It doesn't look like you're connected to the internet. Check your connection and try again. 0x800704cf"

Whenever I try to log into a Microsoft application (like Microsoft Store or the Xbox app) I get this error message, even though I am connected to the internet, and it seems to have nothing to do with that. I've had this problem for a while but I've mostly ignored it.

I'm quite sure it is related to and account switch I did a while ago after my older account got hijacked. When that happened I created a new account with the same email as the old one had, before it was compromised and had its email changed. But now, whenever I try to login to an application that uses my Microsoft login I can see two accounts with the same email appear as options.

This feels like a very niche issue so if anyone has any clue how to fix something like this, I would be very grateful. And if further explanation is needed please ask! I would post a screenshot but the image fails to load for some reason (unless it loads when it post this). Thanks!

    Eddie,

In all due respect, your reply is for technicians, computer experts, etc. I am like most of your users. I bought Microsoft 365 and have renewed for years. Now at this renewal I am getting these type of messages all the time and it impacts me greatly.

When it says "it looks like you are not connected to the internet" but I am, it is a Microsoft issue. Please send me the phone number of your CEO.

    Hi Eddy!

I had that same problem described by OP on Windows 10 and your instructions on workarounds 1+2 solved my problem.

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards

    Victor
