KB5039211 breaks my ability to print to my com port Roland engraver

I have a Roland EGX-30 engraver connected to my Windows 10 22H2 PC via a serial com port.

I use Dr. Engrave 2.72 to design and print to the engraver.

After applying KB5039211 (June 2024 cumulative update) it no longer works. All of the hardware shows to be ok in the device manager.

If I uninstall KB5039211 it starts working again.

Any chance this is a known issue that will be addressed in next update?

Thanks

Ok, thank you. No I hadn't seen it but maybe they'll be able to address it eventually. It actually affects the DE-3 also as that's the new machine I have. At least with Dr. Engrave. It does work with Dr. Engrave Plus that my dealer sent me a copy of. Unfortunately, when I reinstalled Windows it included the June update so I can't uninstall that KB5039211. I guess I'm screwed until they patch it, if they patch it. I appreciate the heads up!

Hey Shawn. Just in case you hadn't seen it yet. Roland has posted on their support page a link that says, "Special Notice for Cutters and Engraver Product Owners" that shows the below when clicked. Not much help other than knowing that Roland is aware of the issue.

Hi Trevor, same issue here on multiple machines. Did you find a workaround? Are you using Dr. Engrave?

    Shawn,

We also thought our hardware may have failed and we ordered a new serial PCIe card and cable. We are using Dr. Engrave 2.72.

I have not determined what part of the update has caused the issue. The only work around I have had any success with is to uninstall the June cumulative update.

As an additional test, I did a fresh Windows 10 install on a different PC without applying any Windows updates and my Roland engraver worked fine.

I applied the Windows June update and as expected, it caused the Roland engraver to stop working again.

I uninstalled the update and the Roland engraver started working again.

So, it is the June update has definitely caused the issue. I am going to submit the information to Microsoft, but I'm not optimistic.

I was never able to get Dr. Engrave to work but I have been using the machine with Dr. Engrave Plus and it's been working fine. I believe Roland has an updated message on their support site saying that they are reworking the drivers and should be released sometime in August, but I don't know if they'll update the drivers for the EGX-350 given it's an end of life unit. You would hope that they do but I guess we'll have to see what they put out.

If you have a DE-3 model, you can find the download at Roland's website. Just click on the software tab and everything for the DE-3 is listed. I don't believe it will support the EXG-30 though.

    Good Luck.
