    Dear Lucas,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thank you for reaching out for assistance with resetting your lock screen password on Windows 10. I understand that forgetting your password can be inconvenient, but I'm here to help you through the process of regaining access to your system.

Here are the steps you can follow to reset your lock screen password if you've forgotten it:

    1. Use Your Microsoft Account: If you are using a Microsoft account to log in to your Windows 10 device, you can reset your password online. Go to the Microsoft password reset page at: Recover your account. Choose 'I forgot my password' and follow the on-screen instructions. You will need access to the email or phone number associated with your Microsoft account to receive a security code.
    2. Change your password by using another administrator user:
      • Boot into Advanced Startup Options: Hold the Shift key while selecting the Restart option. This action will reboot your computer into the Advanced Startup Options screen.
      • Access Command Prompt: Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt. This will open the Command Prompt before Windows boots up.
      • Replace Utility Manager with Command Prompt: In the Command Prompt, enter the following commands, pressing Enter after each:      c:      cd windows\system32      ren utilman.exe utilman.exe.bak      copy cmd.exe utilman.exe
This will replace the Utility Manager at the login screen with the Command Prompt.
      1. Restart your PC: Type wpeutil reboot and press Enter to restart your computer.
      2. Open Command Prompt at Login Screen: At the login screen, click the Utility Manager icon. This should now open the Command Prompt.
      3. Create a New Admin Account: In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter:      net user /add [username] [password]      net localgroup administrators [username] /add
Replace [username] and [password] with your desired username and password.
      1. Sign in with the New Account: You can now log into this new account.

As a last resort, if you cannot regain access to your account, you may need to reinstall Windows 10. Be aware that this will erase all data on the system drive, so it should only be considered if no other options work and there are no valuable data or it's already backed up.

Please try these steps to reset your lock screen password, and let me know if you need further assistance or if any of these solutions helped you regain access to your PC.

    Best Regards,

Martin | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
