Would it be even worth it to upgrade to 8.1 or windows 10?

Windows Update requires TLS 1.2 enabled as of January 2021.

Hello. Yes the laptop would not beable to update on Windows 7 because the servers was taken down a long time ago. You can Try installing Windows 8.1 on it but you would need to install a program called poweriso because Windows 7 did not mount .iso disks. The thing is tho just to let you know the hard drive on that laptop maybe worth something to a data recovery specialist. I seen older 1TB hdds go for a good $. The advantage of Win 7 is if you had MS office installed on it that would be awsome because it is the offline version of office. Other than that it is a paper weight like my older 2014 acer aspire F-15 but even my acer can run Windows 10/11. I just do not use my acer any more because it is sooo slow. haha.

    Moderators Note:

Computers older than 18 moths prior to the release of 11 are not suitable to run Windows 11.

You have been told to install 8.1.

8.1 is an unsupported operating system.

And 8.1 and 10 are not for free and are no longer sol;d by Microsoft.

Support and Updates for 7 ended in 2020.
