How do I fix 'Intel High Definition Audio' device not detected in Windows after dual-booting with Ubuntu 24?

Hello Windows Community,

I recently dual-booted my system with Ubuntu 24 alongside an existing Windows installation that was working fine. However, after setting up Ubuntu, I noticed that my Windows audio is not functioning properly. The Device Manager shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to 'Intel High Definition Audio' under Other devices, indicating that no audio device is installed.

Here are the steps I've already taken:

  1. Checked Device Manager and attempted to update drivers using 'Search automatically for drivers'. This did not resolve the issue.
  2. Restarted the system several times to see if it would automatically detect and reinstall the audio drivers.
  3. Verified that the audio hardware is recognized and functional in Ubuntu, confirming it's a Windows-specific issue.

Could someone please guide me on how to resolve this issue? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hello, Shabeeb PK.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your description of the issue.

Based on your description, you have taken some steps to resolve the issue. You verified that the audio hardware is recognized in Ubuntu, which suggests that the issue may be Windows-specific. You have also tried updating the driver using Device Manager, but without success.

In an Intel core environment, your Windows system's inability to detect audio devices is actually caused by an issue with Intel's core components.

I would recommend that you counter this issue by reinstall the core graphics driver.

You can uninstall it by locating your core display driver in Device Manager, right- clicking on the properties and uninstalling it.

Then visit Intel's official website to get the driver for the corresponding model.

I have found the following link for you:

    Intel® Core™ i7-1255U Processor

Thank you so much for your guidance, Leo.L! Reinstalling the graphics driver as you suggested resolved the "no audio device is installed" issue and cleared the yellow triangle next to Intel High Definition Audio in Device Manager. Everything is working perfectly now, and I appreciate the straightforward solution.

Thanks again for your help! ❤️

    Best regards,

    Shabeeb PK
