Thanks for the clarification.
And thank you, Microsoft, for degrading the usability - once again.
Are the developers just bored morons who try to think of new "features" to annoy and irritate the users.
There is a basic rule that they never obey.
"Any new feature needs an opt-in user's choice to activate it".
I wish I could micro bill them for every unnecessary mouse click, mouse movement or text entry that they introduced with Windows 11.
The task bar is crippled, there is no quick launch or multi-row anymore, the tray overflow menu is a nag, icons disappear, the right-click file menu is downgraded etc., etc.
If I had access to their car's software, I would like to change the way it needs to be operated every other month, to make them feel the pain too.
Explorer appearance has changed after recent update
Yesterday I installed the updates for my system, and now I notice a different behavior of all file explorer appearances (explorer.exe as well as file selection dialogs from other programs)
I always use detailed list mode and if I select multiple items, they now appear as a table with separating lines.
How can I change this back to the less obtrusive previous look where the entries were just highlighted with a decent separating line?
I have a notebook which I did not update yet and this is how it had looked before:
Windows for home | Windows 11 | Files, folders, and storage

2024-07-14T06:08:33+00:00 I think uninstalling an update is no good option, as it means that future updates also need to be denied.
As updates do not contain isolated features, I would also skip other fixes or enhancements.
The only solution I see is, that M$ will eventually make this crappy "feature" a user selectable setting.

2024-07-14T23:46:24+00:00 Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
It’s important to balance the need for updates with the stability and usability of your system. Hopefully, Microsoft will consider making more features user-selectable in the future.
Best Regards

2024-07-13T04:57:46+00:00 There is even a flaw with this "new" feature.
If I have selected a file and then click in the white space in explorer, the file becomes unselected but the frame border stays.
I suppose M$ promotes this as a "feature" too.
And on applications, which have a decent grid by themselves (as seen at the bottom of the pic below), the extra frame creates specifically irritating extra lines which give a very inhomogeneous appearance.
