Outlook problem: red squiggly underlines appearing below English text.

Hello there,

I live in Spain; I have a surface laptop (bought in the same country) which I use to write email using Outlook. The problem is that whenever I choose to write in English, the software instantly decides to underline all my prose with annoying red squiggles. In an attempt to remedy the situation, I have gone to setting and changed the language to US English; this has not worked.

How do I fix this problem?

I have had this issue for SO LONG and it has been bothering me so much. I have tried every suggestion I came across, but nothing helped. I think I just figured it out, though! The steps I followed are below (I tried to include screenshots, but am unable to add them here for some reason):

    1. Hover over one of the underlined words and click on it.
    2. A small "Spelling" pop-up will appear. On the bottom right of that pop-up, click on the "Editor" (it has a little pen icon next to it) button.
    3. An "Editor" sidebar should open on the right. At the very bottom of it, there should be a "Settings" section, click on the "Customize your Editor" option.
    4. "Microsoft Editor Settings" will pop up. Choose "Manage spellcheck languages" > "Add another language" > choose the English relevant to you > "Add" > "Done" >"OK"

    I REALLY hope this helps!

    Hi,

Could you then elaborate on the issue for us other people who have the same problem? It's not normal for people to have to find workarounds for something that should be working for decades already. And it's annoying as hell to get those red underlines for basic english text.

    Thanks,

Im having same issue. It is for Outlook on the Chrome Browser. I am not willing to switch to Edge. How do i turn off the red squiggle lines. When you right click on a word to spell check it as you normally does it gives you Emoji suggestions, not spelling suggestions. I think Outlook thinks my actual text should be emojis. How do I fix this?

    Hi Brian,

When I open the latest version of Outlook in Chrome I get the squiggles under the English text; however, when I open in Outlook in Edge I don't get the squiggles anymore. Hmmm.

So I guess I fixed the problem--at least until something else crops up.

    But thanks all the same.

    Regards,

    David Saiz
