Please help, paste plain text (ctrl+shift+v) suddenly won't work for me anymore, but paste (ctrl+v) still does.

Hello, please help me. My problem is that for some reason now, whenever I try to paste plain text using ctrl+shift+v, it won't work anymore, even on this site while im typing my question. I've been using websites such as google docs and grammarly this whole time. I don't think I messed with anything such as changing any settings, letting any app/program change anything or any of the sorts. I was just using windows 11 per usual (which consists of mostly browsing and using the internet), and the v key still works just fine too. I turned on my laptop and got to use the browser continuing where I left off, but this keyboard command just stopped working suddenly, even in other programs/apps not just within the browser tabs. And yes, I have turn the device on and off and updated my device and even keyboard drivers (keyboard didn't need an update so I let it be), but it still doesn't work. It has actually been at least a week since the keyboard command can't work. But just paste using ctrl+v still works though. But I rather not use that when using sites such as google docs because it will be inconvenient for me when pasting text that are formatted way differently from the way I formatted my doc. I have to edit those text and it will be very tedious if there is lots of pasting to do. So please don't tell me to just use ctrl+v and please help me to find a way to bring this keyboard shortcut back. Thanks in advance.

Plain text paste does not work for me anymore either.

It is caused by a recent windows update in June 2024.

Using CTRL+ALT+V in MS Word offers the menu option of plain text, but it incorrectly pastes formatted text anyway.

Pasting into Notepad should always paste with no formatting and the notepad default font, but that does not work anymore, and it paste formatted text with emojis and various fonts.

    Microsoft must fix this but!

If you haven't found the answer yet, here is how to fix it in Word. I am still trying to figure out Outlook.

Someone found a solution from John Korchok in the Microsoft Community forum that leverages the Word keyboard shortcut customizations, where 99.999% of users never venture. Here’s how to do it:

    1. On your menu bar, go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon.
    2. Click on the Keyboard shortcuts: Customize button (on the bottom left)
    3. In the Categories list, choose All Commands, and in the Commands list, choose PasteTextOnly (you need to scroll down a bit to find the All Commands option).
    4. In the Press new shortcut key field, enter Ctrl+Shift+V and hit the Assign button. If Ctrl+Shift+V is already In the Current keys field (as it was on my computer) enter it into the Press new shortcut key field anyway and hit Assign.

    Dear Cookie croissant,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

I fully understand how inconvenient it can be when a frequently used keyboard shortcut, such as Ctrl + Shift + V for pasting plain text, suddenly ceases to function. Rest assured, I am here to assist you in resolving this issue.

Based on your description, it appears that the Ctrl + Shift + V shortcut has stopped working across various applications, despite your comprehensive troubleshooting efforts, including restarting your device, updating Windows 11, and checking for keyboard driver updates.

Here are a few additional steps that you can take to potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Check Shift Key Functionality: First, ensure that your Shift key is functioning correctly. You can test this by trying other shortcuts that involve the Shift key. For instance, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to see if Task Manager opens properly. If this shortcut does not work, there may be an issue with the Shift key itself, which would require further investigation.
    2. Reset Keyboard Settings: Sometimes, resetting the keyboard settings to their default state can resolve unexpected behavior:
      • Open the Settings app.
      • Navigate to "Time & Language" > "Language."
      • Under "Preferred languages," select your language (e.g., English) and click on "Options."
      • Under "Keyboards," remove your current keyboard layout and then re-add it.
    3. Test in Safe Mode: Booting your computer in Safe Mode can help determine if a third-party application is causing the problem. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and services:
      • Press Win + R, type "msconfig," and press Enter.
      • In the System Configuration window, go to the "Boot" tab and check "Safe boot" with the "Minimal" option.
      • Restart your computer. If the shortcut works in Safe Mode, the issue may be caused by a third-party application.
    4. Check Edge Browser Settings: If you are using the Edge browser, you can check the default paste format setting:
      • Type 'edge://settings/shareCopyPaste' in the Edge address bar and press Enter.
      • Adjust the settings if necessary to ensure that plain text pasting is enabled.
    5. System Restore: If none of the above steps resolve the problem, performing a system restore might be beneficial. This will revert your system to a point when the Ctrl + Shift + V shortcut was working correctly:
      • Ensure you have a system restore point created before the issue started.
      • Press Win + R, type "rstrui," and press Enter to open System Restore.
      • Follow the prompts to restore your system to the chosen restore point.

I sincerely hope these steps help you restore the functionality of the Ctrl + Shift + V shortcut. Should you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

    Best Regards,
