FN Key for brightness only changes between like 60 and 90%, (1 up, 1 down), how to fix that?

Hello

Windows 11

MSI Prestige 15 laptop

Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050

and internal Intel Iris Xe Graphics

(I am only working with the internal Graphis to my knowledge)

I did not use the laptop for a few weeks
I am pretty sure this worked before, because I adjusted display a lot of times

There is a MSI Center pro installed, but it has no settings for display brightness

All other FN keys work fine

(loudness for example or FN for changing power saving mode, keybord brightness)

but brightenss for display, goes down 1 step to 60%, and 1 step up to 90% nothing else.

cant get darker

cant get brighter

I am getting nuts where this setting should be to change anything

I have not changed anything to my knowledge

and I used this heavy, I always adjust screen brightness during day and night.

why is it "locked"

It must be some useless feature, because it is acting like "max brightness allowed is 90"...and lowest 60.

I hate computers and windwos system so much these days... everything is hidden

To solve that problem:

I had to open

->system

-> device manager and find

  • >"monitor"

-> integrated monitor

click on > DEACTIVATE DEVICE
(this might make you believe you will not see anything as the screen will go off? No it wont) Only the FN Keys stop working completely.

then click on "ACTIVATE DEVICE" again

Magic happens, the FN Keys for brightness will work normal again.

I have no idea why it happende and how to reproduce the error. I connected external monitors and disconnected again and still brightenss keys work normal.

I am using an external monitor sometimes on USB-C connection. Then of course the FN Keys only work for the laptop monitor and not for the external one (that would be so cool if it would work)

Anyway, no I am no longer stuck between 60 and 90% brightness.
