Thank you for reaching out! As an Independent Advisor and fellow Microsoft user, I'm happy to assist you.

    1. Compatible VPN protocols for iOS:
    • IKEv2
    • IPSec
    • L2TP
    • OpenVPN (needs separate app)
    • WireGuard (needs separate app)
    1. VPN protocol matching:

No, the VPN protocol doesn't need to be the same as the client device.

    1. iOS Private Relay:

Not suitable for Remote Desktop. It's only for web browsing privacy.

    1. iOS Lockdown Mode:

Not recommended for Remote Desktop. It's too restrictive and may block connections.

    To use Remote Desktop:

    1. Install Microsoft Remote Desktop app
    2. Set up VPN on your iOS device
    3. Connect to VPN first
    4. Then use Remote Desktop app to connect to your PC

Always use a VPN for secure Remote Desktop access over the internet.

Thanks Annujin for prompt and useful advise. I will proceed and try them out.

I have further questions like following

    1. Since turning off setting like Private Relay and Lockdown mode is cumbersome like restarting and manual operation, does using separate app allows said setting?
    2. is following protocols more reliable like intermittent disconnect or login ease for
        • OpenVPN (needs separate app)
        • WireGuard (needs separate app)

    Thanks and Kind Regards,
