Samsung migration stuck at 99%, cloning is slow

So i got a new 990 PRO NVMe and a 840 EVO SSD for my HP envy to upgrade from a bone old 1tb HDD from 2016. Its slow and not really useful for my mother. Though these are my problems:

  1. On the first try, it took about 2 days being stuck 99% with very little progress done. It says 0 MB/s but it takes 30 to an hour to upload one file, and theres about 500. Tho this happens when its stuck at 99%
  2. On the 2nd try, since the first try had an unknown error, i tried again, but this time, it was quicker to clone the files to my SSD than the first try. But then it got stuck at 99% making very little progress.
  3. I am currently on my 3rd try before I download another software and try again. I am leaving it over night again and i hope it finally does something.

But my question is, how do I fix thid, and what are the best free programs to clone my data to my new drive? I heard macrium is good but they now are now billing people. Same with minitool but i need an older version but i heard a lot of good feedback about it.

So ny overall question is, how do I fix it, whats causing it and what are some good/best free to use cloning softwares?

If you need any information like pictures, logs, etc i will gladly help

I had what I thought was the same issue, but I WAITED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AT 99%, AND THE PROCESS COMPLETED ON ITS OWN!! The Magician software is probably not hung (or stuck). My cloning of a .5 TB to a 2.0 TB disk took about 4 hours, and was seemingly stuck at 99% for about 30 minutes before COMPLETING and displaying 100%, and "migration complete".

And the clone was installed and successfully booted as expected.

So, folks, the solution, as with many things, is to BE PATIENT. Just let it run.

I hope this helps. Because I did not see this solution anywhere else.

Hello. I used the Samsung tool also and it seems like I had the same issue, e.g. it did not go to completion. I was also looking around for different software but I installed the SSD and it booted perfectly and all files were there. I suggest you see if the SSD boots and see if any files are missing.

Well this was not my case actually, I waited countless days for it to finish but it just never did. So I downloaded Minitool partitionwizard Version 10 (the newest version now requires purchases to get it, which sucks) and it transfered all my data like a charm. I went from a HDD to a m.2 SSD I think between 30 to 1:20hr

Hello #Scion and welcome to the Microsoft Community!

According to your feedback, you are experiencing a slow and stuck Samsung hard disk migration issue!

You can try the following to see if there is an issue with your hard disk

    Check the hard disk:

Search for cmd and run it in administrator mode

    Type chkdsk c: /f

Wait for the check to complete and see if it checks and fixes the problem.

Disclaimer: Running chkdsk checks the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. To avoid causing unnecessary trouble, please follow the above steps step by step and do not interrupt or cancel during the run, and make a backup of important data.

If you have any questions, please upload screenshots to us!

We hope you find the above information helpful!
