Second monitor randomly going dark for a few seconds.

I'm running Windows 11 on my Thinkpad P1. At work, I use a docking station and have two external monitors (my laptop is closed). My secondary monitor will periodically go black for a few seconds, then turn back on. It happens 20+ times per day. Any ideas on what's happening and how to fix it? (All my drivers are up to date and my connections/cables are all secure). Thanks!

Hello, my name is Jan and I'm happy to help you today. I'm sorry you're having this problem with your monitors. There are many possible reasons why the screen turns black. This could be due to drivers, cables, or docking stations. Please try the following suggestions.

    1. Power cycle/reset your computer.

Press the power button for 10 seconds to turn off

then unplug your AC adapter for 30 seconds

    then plug in your adapter.

    then start your device.

    1. Press Windows Key + X

    select Device Manager.

    Expand the Display Adapter

    select the graphics driver

Try to disable and re-enable the driver

    1. Reinstall the graphics driver. Download the latest driver from the manufacturer's site and install it. Also, try the old driver if the latest driver does not work.

If you have Nvidia or AMD graphics, select the custom install and

    Perform a clean install option.

    1. Ensure the monitor resolution and refresh rates match the monitor's native resolution /refresh rates.
    2. Reinstall and update the docking station drivers. Download the drivers directly from the Manufacturer's support website. Restart your computer.
    3. Try replacing the secondary monitor's display/HDMI cables.
    4. Try removing other external devices connected to the docking station.
