"Hi, I am Jayshri, Independent Advisor here to work with you on this issue."
It sounds like your DNS settings are reverting to manual when connecting to open Wi-Fi networks, causing connectivity issues. Here’s how to address this problem
Reset DNS Settings
Change DNS to Automatic:
Go to Settings > Network & internet.
Click on Wi-Fi.
Click on your connected Wi-Fi network.
Scroll down and click on Edit under DNS server assignment.
Select Automatic (DHCP) from the dropdown. Click Save.
Reset Network Stack:
Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
Run:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
Restart your computer.
- Forget and Reconnect
Forget Network:
Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.
Click on Manage known networks.
Select the open Wi-Fi network and click Forget.
Reconnect to the network and check if the issue persists.
- Update Network Drivers
Update Drivers:
Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).
Expand Network adapters.
Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.
Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Check for Conflicts
Security Software:
Ensure no security software or VPN is interfering with DNS settings.
- Use Public DNS Servers
Configure Public DNS:
Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.
Click on your connected Wi-Fi network.
Scroll down and click on Edit under DNS server assignment.
Select Manual and enter:
Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)
Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4 (Google) or 1.0.0.1 (Cloudflare)
Click Save.
These steps should help you maintain consistent DNS settings and improve connectivity on open Wi-Fi networks in Windows 11.
