dns settings for wifi's with open connections keep going back to manual

Whenever i try to go to a coffee shop or anywhere with open wifi connections the internet is always hard to connect to because the dns settings keep going back to manual even though I've tried to permanently make it auto. I end up connecting but it says connected but no internet. Then it's a process to change the settings and wait until it works.

But when i connect to a wifi that is password encrypted everything works fine with no issues. Any advice on what to do about this inconvenience?

"Hi, I am Jayshri, Independent Advisor here to work with you on this issue."

It sounds like your DNS settings are reverting to manual when connecting to open Wi-Fi networks, causing connectivity issues. Here’s how to address this problem

    Reset DNS Settings

    Change DNS to Automatic:

Go to Settings > Network & internet.

    Click on Wi-Fi.

Click on your connected Wi-Fi network.

Scroll down and click on Edit under DNS server assignment.

Select Automatic (DHCP) from the dropdown. Click Save.

    Reset Network Stack:

    Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

    Run:

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh int ip reset

    Restart your computer.

    1. Forget and Reconnect

    Forget Network:

    Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.

    Click on Manage known networks.

Select the open Wi-Fi network and click Forget.

Reconnect to the network and check if the issue persists.

    1. Update Network Drivers

    Update Drivers:

Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).

    Expand Network adapters.

Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.

Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

    1. Check for Conflicts

    Security Software:

Ensure no security software or VPN is interfering with DNS settings.

    1. Use Public DNS Servers

    Configure Public DNS:

    Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.

Click on your connected Wi-Fi network.

Scroll down and click on Edit under DNS server assignment.

    Select Manual and enter:

Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)

Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4 (Google) or 1.0.0.1 (Cloudflare)

    Click Save.

These steps should help you maintain consistent DNS settings and improve connectivity on open Wi-Fi networks in Windows 11.
