Stop windows updates permanently

How to stop Windows updates permanently? I mean forever! I mean not you press the button and it switches off back regardless your will and still updates. I mean shut this thing up forever! And I don't want something for a week, or tonight. I NEVER EVER ASKED THIS BLOODY THING TO UPDATE!!!

If anyone can better explain Windows developer what 'forever' means I would highly appreciate it.

I'm loosing files, I'm loosing connection, new versions always have more bugs to deal with and it happens regardless I want it or not. I understand we have no real choice in OS so they do whatever they want, but this should be stopped.

    Hi Ramesh,

Thank you for the suggestion to install third-party software. This is ridiculous how deliberate these actions are from the Windows side.

I understand updates are important but I don't want anyone, never f'n ever to switch my computer and close my files without my explicit permission.

If I don't want it - I don't want it! I mean I really do not want you to decide for me when to turn off my computer. I can't keep writing without swearing but please stop doing it! I NEVER EVER accept your uncontrollable reboots. Could please those people who authorise it burn in hell.

    Thank you

    Hi Viacheslav,

I agree that it can be a frustrating experience sometimes. And there is scope for improvement as far as the updates are concerned. First, the update process should be error-free. If a single file in the component store is missing, the update should be resilient enough to fetch that file from WU rather than throwing an error, which an end user can't fathom.

If you have any suggestions, you may send feedback to Microsoft via the Feedback Hub (Win + F).

    Hi Viacheslav, This is Ramesh.

There is no built-in option to permanently turn off Windows Update, but there are other methods to accomplish the task.

There is third-party software named StopUpdates10 that aggressively disables Windows Update by disabling the service and setting a debugger value in the registry so that Windows Update and feature updates can't run. Even if you or the OS enables it, StopUpdates10 monitors the Windows Update service and turns it off automatically.

    (or)

Create a System Restore Point. Open Regedit.exe. In the Registry Editor, go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsoSvc

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DoSvc

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Wuauserv

In each of the above keys, set the "Start" value to "4".

    Restart Windows.

    Important:

Disabling Windows Update has some disadvantages and risks.

Microsoft Store can't install or update apps.

Any software that relies on Windows Updates or BITS will fail to update correctly.

Your system will be vulnerable if it's not updated. Disable Windows Update at your own risk.

When you want to install updates, you can click "Restore Windows Updates" in the StopUpdates10 app and install them during nonproductive hours. This is a better option to ensure your system is not vulnerable.

    Hi Viacheslav,

I wish I could forward your feedback, but unfortunately, I don't know of any point of contact at Microsoft. I just provide support here as an independent advisor.

    Regards,

    Hi Ramesh,

It is always frustrating experience dealing with Windows updates. Always.

Sending feedback in Windows meaning allowing even more data collection about me by Windows. I know that with every update my privacy settings update themselves surprisingly, but I never admitted any surveillance from Windows side and it still happens.

So please send my message to your team: please stop unauthorised reboots now! Please stop unauthorised change in security settings now!

Please tell me if my message is clear.
