My charger is severely overheating is there something wrong with it?

I recently purchased a new Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, which came with a Model 2062 charger. I have noticed that the charging block itself becomes excessively hot to the touch while charging, to the point where I cannot handle it. I have tried using different outlets, but the issue persists. Even when the laptop is not in use and the room is cool, the charger becomes extremely hot after just five minutes. Is this behavior normal, or could it indicate that I have a faulty charger?

Good day jack, thanks for your question. I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. It is normal for a charger to get hot but not to the point that you cannot handle it and for this it will be best to have it be checked and not use it on your device for the time being just to be safe and this is also to avoid incurring additional issues that might happen and for this you can refer to the link below with regards to requesting for a service or for a repair.

Hello. The problem is that the chargers are usally a sealed unit. The charger block should not get as hot as you are describing. The charger may have a reacall, the unit may also still be under warranty if it is has the 1year+warranty or covered by extended warranty. I think I would buy a universal charger they are inexpensive and you can buy them from the local computer repair shops. Try to match the output volts/watts on the charger. The Surface is a smaller device you can always bring it with you to the store to test what charger fits. The universal ones can come with longer cords too it will say the length of the cord on the box.
