It is not a wireless scanner. It has a USB B type 3 connection to a USB-A. my new surface pro only has USB-C so i have scanner plugged into Surface Pro dock (powered). The Epson scanner package for the ES-400 gets to a point where it says that the scanner is detected and installation will proceed with USB is connected -- it gets stuck here. So it detects the scanner is there through the cable but cannot go further. Geek Squad said the driver is not downloading and needs to be done manually and to call Epson. Epson said it was firewall (but I turned off firewall).
epson ES-400 driver won't install on Windows 11 new computer
I have spent three hours with Geek Squad, and have talked to Epson. Geek Squad told me I need to manually install driver and to call Epson. Epson told me my firewall must be blocking the driver from its download program but I turned off the firewall. I cannot get a driver to install. Any idea how to get correct driver to install?

2024-08-16T21:27:46+00:00 OK I did find something when I go to device manager. Down under "Other devices", it says Epson Scanner. If I click on that, a window comes up saying manufacturer unknown and under device status -- "The drivers for this device are not installed. There are no compatible drivers for this device."

2024-08-16T21:01:35+00:00 The categories don't work like you typed them. I have Windows 11. I went to device manager and don't see any unknown devices. However, when Geek Squad had control of my computer they did pull something up that had the ES-400 as an unknown device. I just can't find it.

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Devices > Devices and Printers > Devices > Show more devices and printer configuration.
See if the scanner appears as unknown devices?
