This is also happening for me. I have the one processor that can't be upgraded to Windows 11, so I think this is a ploy by Microsoft to get me to buy a new computer. It's outrageous that I suddenly have no disk space when I had plenty of disk space before the recent update. What the hell Microsoft???
Windows updates are taking up huge storage space problem!
Please help community. The last few windows updates for me are using up 4 - 5gb storage space!! I thought that can't be right. The latest one "2024-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5037768)" took around 4.7gb of my storage.I looked up the size of the update and it was only 649mb so why would it use so much of my SSD? I'm running low on space and this is becoming a huge problem for me, the last 3 monthly cumulative updates have literally used up about 13gb of my 112gb drive.I don't believe this is correct something must be wrong can anyone help? Also under temporary files in storage it says at the very bottom it said updates 2.85gb.I thought when updates happened this space may come back.Anyway I clicked "view update settings" which took me to windows update. When I went back to storage, the update size had reduced by exactly 1gb to 1.85gb, but my space on drive did not increase at all.So literally 1gb just vanished into thin air!!
If update keeps taking 4gb or more monthly I will have zero space and an unusable computer in 6 months. There is no way these updates are 4gb or bigger, I'm sure the win 10 system is only like 5gb?
Please help me fix this issue, it's so annoying no way it uses that much space!
Many thanks! :)

2024-10-06T17:02:14+00:00 I have the exact same problem. Since the late 2024 spring updates began Windows is eating up disk space, but I can't figure out where it is and what it's being used for. Twice I've had to attach an external hard drive to have enough space to install updates. After the last time I spent hours going through storage and deleting everything I could, including programs I didn't use that took up a huge amount of space like Microsoft 365 and all of its related files. That freed up about 5 gigabits of space and was only a few months ago.
Now after the last update I had less than a gigabit of empty disk space! I regularly do disk cleanup, including for system files, and I have also noticed the bizarre issue with amount of available disk space going DOWN after deleting things instead of freeing up space. Sometimes restarting the computer will correct that. Sometimes it doesn't. When I put my computer to sleep yesterday it showed about 500mb free, but when I turned it back on today, it was 1.3gb. When I opened Firefox to write this, a LOW DISK SPACE warning came up and when I checked Windows Explorer it says I have ZERO space!!! How can it go from 1.3 to zero just for opening one application? Maybe it has something to do with a crazy amount of mysterious Microsoft applications always running in Task Manager? I haven't closed them, because I have no idea what they are or if it will crash my computer.
****, Microsoft? What is Windows doing in the background? There is a HUGE amount of space on my SSD that I can't account for by going through applications and system files, WAY MORE than Windows 11 should be taking up. This is criminal. I bought this computer when Windows 11 came out and now Windows 11 will soon make it unusable and force me to buy another computer, spending WAY MORE MONEY than I want to, just to get a laptop with enough space for Windows to devour. I will have to pause updates, because there is no way I can install the upcoming one.
FIX THIS, MICROSOFT!!!!

2024-08-17T11:48:24+00:00 I have the exact same problem. Recent windows update is eating up my disk space real fast. It came to a point that the system message said that I need to release space to allow for installation of latest updates. I went ahead and uninstall a program Adobe Premiere which was supposed to release more than 1GB of space. However, as soon as I restarted my computer, all free space were gone, and now I can't even browse the internet without excessive crashing. If Microsoft won't fix this issue , I'm going to switch over to Apple .

2024-09-13T19:49:37+00:00 I agree this is getting to outrageous. It has taken me since 7:30 this morning (now 2:45) to get the update on my laptop and the Disk Cleanup is still running to remove the 3 Gig Temp ugrade file. Just not acceptable.
I consistently do the Disk Cleanup every Friday after my update runs and every Friday it is the same slowness and lag to get the laptop performing acceptably again. Basically, I am without the laptop for a full day for every update.
So frustrating.

2024-08-05T10:51:53+00:00 Mmmmm I've noticed this recently myself , I have a 2TB HDD and there was an update recently , now I see a WindowsApps folder on that drive that wasn't there before , can't confirm it's size (all my system based files are on my SSD , so this drive was literally blank except for games) , I uninstall and delete stuff and instead of freeing up space I lose more somehow , I don't even have access to this folder much less can I see it's size so it's all odd.....is a recent thing though.
