Hello,

I was using the Windows Media Player fine yesterday to rip CDs. Today I tried again and I cannot find the rip button feature--only burn CDs. Should I uninstall and reinstall the program? The only program that comes up in my apps is Windows Media Player Legacy. I have the newest version of Windows. My laptop is less than a year old. Thanks!

Cheers, I had the same problem, If you are playing the files on the RHS pane you won't see RIP option.

Select the disc icon in the far left pane, this causes the file list to go to the center pane, the option to RIP is then presented in the top ribbon.

    Hello Carrie, Long

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

If you're unable to find the rip CD button in Windows Media Player, there could be a few reasons for this. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try before resorting to uninstalling and reinstalling the program:

    1. Check the View Options: Sometimes, the layout of Windows Media Player changes slightly with updates. Ensure that you're in the "Library" view. You can switch between different views by clicking on the icons in the top-right corner of the window.
    2. Look for the Rip Tab: In some versions of Windows Media Player, the "Rip" feature is located under a separate tab. Look for tabs like "Play," "Burn," and "Sync" at the top of the window. If you see a "Rip" tab, click on it to access the rip CD functionality.
    3. Reset Windows Media Player: You can try resetting Windows Media Player to its default settings. To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, then click on "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane. Locate Windows Media Player in the list, uncheck it, and then click OK. Afterward, restart your computer, go back to the same location, re-enable Windows Media Player, and restart your computer again.
    4. Update Windows Media Player: Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player installed. You can check for updates by opening Windows Update from the Settings app.
    5. Check for Driver Updates: Occasionally, issues with media player functionality can be caused by outdated or corrupted drivers. Make sure all your device drivers are up to date by checking the manufacturer's website or using a driver update utility.

If you've exhausted these options and still can't find the rip CD button or access the functionality, then you might consider uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player as a last resort.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards
