control buttons not working on MSI laptop?

I have a new MSI gaming laptop I got just a couple of months ago. Since I've had it, I've never been able to use the volume/mic/brightness/etc control buttons at the top, and I don't know why. I assumed it would go away with an update, but it hasn't. I've made sure it's updated, and I've checked the settings.

I'm not sure what else might be helpful. Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but whenever I plug/unplug it, the computer screen goes black for a second. My brother thinks he's techy and said it's no big deal, but I'm not sure.

Should I be worried..? What should I try? I'm not so concerned about the charger thing, but I do wish my control buttons worked.

    Hi Amber,

I am Tanvi, and I would be happy to assist you today!

Some laptops require pressing a specific function key (usually Fn) to activate the multimedia controls. Hold the Fn key and press Esc (Fn+Esc) to unlock them. After that, check if the function keys start working correctly.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other queries.

    Good day

    Hi Amber,

Thanks for updating me, but a frozen trackpad can be due to software glitches, driver issues, or physical obstructions.

Alright, thank you, that got the control buttons to work, but then my trackpad froze and stopped working, I've gotten a USB plug in mouse to work for now, at least.
