My update kicked in on the 6th May 2024. as I try my best to stall Windows updates as much as possible.

Usually, when I get Windows Updates, I RESET my PC keeping my files, so I can continue working.

This last Update though has turned off my security, My WINDOW RE and winre.wim has disappeared

Cant enable Windows security, no virus checker, scanner,

No recovery environment

Endless loop of update download, restart, undo update (50 minutes) and my laptop has ground to halt)

I have read the release updates and edits, still no solutions.

Anyone any idea how to rest pc keep files, after this atest con update

My appreciate any help

Let's see if WinRE can be fixed. Please post a screenshot of Disk Management.

Also, open admin Command Prompt and run:

    reagentc /info

    diskpart

    list disk

    select disk 0

    list part

    list vol

    exit

    Post the output here.

    Hi Estelle,

Yes Ive seen that from all the other 100's of thousands of people across the globe, having to do a clean install, copy all their files to a seperate hardrive. I have 400GB to transfer. I noticed when having to this before the photos do not copy correcly. 1000's of images lost.

Just wondering. If Microsoft is aware that their update of 22h2 is causing so much problems since January, whya fix has not been declared.

eg: the current fix is "wipe your computer"

If you look to Youtue, you will se thousands of people trying to restore their PC's

Following a forced update from Microsoft, isnt there a better way.

    Shouldnt i try rebuilding bootrec?

    or fix mbr

I think the problem is I followed to fix update from Microsoft published 9th July, which seems to have alterted my partitions, and deleted my recovery files.

    I cannot find BCDedit

So reverting back to my question, im looking to see if anyone has found a soliution to resetting PC and keeping files following the disasterous update 22h2. Clean installation is unacceptable Im afraid

I'm saddened that these steps didn't work for you. I want to be honest that the only remaining solution, if this is a software issue, is a clean installation of Windows OS.

Before we do that, could you please try this method below to see if you can save your files?

If you have files to back up, refer to the link below.

    Hi Estrella,

    Thanks for responding.

So just to speed things along,

for the past few weeks have tried this method.

The only option availabe is the x:\resources in cmd.

All other option from your solution end in error, with no erro code, or "there was a problem" with no details of the problem.

    Satrtup and repair, cant repair

UEFI boot from USB after creation media can repair the PC, and reverts back to advanced options troubleshoot

    cant Uninstall Features

    Cant uninstall updates

Sytem Restore cant restore because it can find recovery enviroment

System Im age recovery cant find image

the only option in advanced options is cmd X:\resources

I am now stuck in "Automatic repair loop".

I understand the only solution so far, is to buy another laptop, which ironically is how i got this laptop.

I note that Microsoft has released on the 9th July a solution that more or less says, reinstall windows.

I would like to keep my files.

Since the 22h2 update, i cannot start my PC

    thanks

    GAz

    Hi GAZ113,

My name is Estrella, and I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry to hear that you're having this trouble. I'll be more than happy to help.

Please try this method to run a repair on your affected PC:

Use another working computer and an empty USB drive with at least 8GB of space to create a bootable drive containing the media creation too.

Steps to create Windows Bootable USB Installation Media:

    1. From a working PC insert your USB drive and click this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
    2. Hit 'Download now' under Create Windows 10 installation media
    3. Uncheck the Use the recommended options for this PC box.
    4. Under 'Choose which Media to use' select USB flash drive.
    5. It will now prompt Downloading Windows
    6. Click finish.

    On your affected computer:

    1. Insert the created bootable USB installation media
    2. Start your PC and while booting up repeatedly press your boot menu key to Go to BIOS/UEFI
    3. Change to boot from the USB device.
    4. On the installation page select 'Repair your PC' at the left bottom.

Click Troubleshoot, then Advanced, and repair this PC now.

Wait for the process to finish then check.

Click Troubleshoot, then Advanced and Uninstall Recently Installed Updates.

Click Troubleshoot, then System Restore, and select a restore point from before the issue occurred. Let the process finish and check.

And as a last resort, click Troubleshoot > Reset This PC (Keep My Files).
