Windows 11 PC keeps frequently waking from sleep

Event viewer reads:

The system is exiting Modern Standby

Reason: Input Mouse.

PS C:\Users\xxxx> powercfg lastwake

Wake History Count - 0

PS C:\Users\xxxx> powercfg waketimers

There are no active timers in the system.

I have disabled the "Allow this device to wake the computer" checkbox for every HID, keyboard and "mice and other pointing devices". I shouldn't be able to wake it with my mouse if I tried.

Any suggestions for further troubleshooting this?

Hi, Ben. My name is Ivan, and I am an Independent Assessor. I'd be more than happy to assist you. I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Don't worry, I'll do everything I can to help you.

    • Have you checked that all drivers and Windows updates are current?
    • Examine power settings in detail:

Open Control Panel > Power Options.

Select "Change plan settings" for the active power plan.

    Click "Change advanced power settings."

Expand "Sleep" and then "Allow wake timers."

Make sure that both "On battery" and "Plugged in" are set to "Disable."

Check other sleep-related settings for inconsistencies.

    • Disable wake capabilities for other devices:

    Go to Device Manager.

Expand other device categories (USB controllers, network adapters, etc.).

Check for devices with "Allow this device to wake the computer" enabled. Disable this option for any unnecessary devices.

This makes no sense. In device manager I have wake option disabled for all keyboard and mouse devices. And all other USB devices. Yet if I press a key on my keyboard or click my mouse it wakes the PC. And device manage says "Reason: Input Mouse" or "Reason: Input Keyboard". It's as if those settings are being ignored.

    • Have you tried unplugging the mouse or changing it to see if this is triggering?
    • Try disabling Bluetooth or removing paired devices to see if it makes a difference.
    • Make sure hybrid sleep is disabled. This can sometimes cause unexpected wakeups.
    • Have you done any diagnostic tests on the RAM? This can sometimes cause instability in the same way as overheating, it is important to perform cleaning and changing thermal paste periodically.
    • Try running this command after experiencing a wakeup to see if any information is recorded.

    Powercfg -lastwake

Hi, thanks for the response. The only thing above that I hadn't done was the change to disable wake timers. However, it does seem that the mouse is waking it. Perhaps from a vibration? But it should not be able to, as I have set every single item in device manager that has a "Allow this device to wake the computer" to disabled. All HID, keyboard, and "mice and other pointing devices". Yet I can still wake the PC using either mouse or keyboard.
