PC frozen, keyboard and mouse are not working, unable to turn off

**Issue: Laptop Frozen and Unresponsive**

My laptop is completely frozen, and the keyboard is unresponsive. This means I'm unable to shut it down or perform any basic functions. I've tried all the standard options like **Ctrl+Alt+Del** and **Windows+R**, but nothing is working. Powering off isn't an option either since the keyboard is entirely non-functional.

Is my laptop beyond repair? Thankfully, all my data is backed up, but this doesn't resolve the underlying problem. What should I do next?

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Is this a recurring problem or the first time it has happened?

Even if the keyboard itself isn't working, you can usually force your PC to shut down by holding down the power button for a few seconds. Usually, you only need to hold it for 5 seconds to force it to shut down. But I've seen a laptop where you need to hold it for about 15 seconds.

The power button (the same button used to turn on the laptop) is usually separate from the keyboard internally, although it appears to be part of the keyboard.

So, hold the power button until the laptop turns off. Then, turn it back on and see if the system starts up properly.

Let me know the result. Click on the "Reply" button below my reply.

Feel free to ask back any questions.

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Answering your questions:

    1. It's hard to know what's causing this without investigating. Freezing problems can be caused by several reasons, from software to hardware.
    2. It is necessary to find the cause so that I can see what can help you resolve it.

I can tell you right now that it is a problem that can be challenging to find its cause.

What is the manufacturer and model of your laptop?

I did that already with no success.
I held the button down for 10 secs and then tried again holding it for 20 secs
then finally I helped it down for 3 mins and nothing :(

Please note that this issue occurred on Saturday. I unplugged the laptop and let the battery drain. This morning, I plugged it back in, and it powered on successfully.

What should be my first steps now that it's back on?

also, I have a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3

The main concern is: Why did the laptop freeze?

It's up to date with the latest updates and drivers. I use a cloud solution for document storage, so the laptop uses minimal storage. I also block many websites to prevent hacks and have Norton security installed.

    **My questions are:**

    1. Why did this happen?
    2. How can I prevent it from happening again?
