Dear Sam Joseph,
Hello! Welcome to the Microsoft Community. I'm glad to be able to assist you. If I misunderstand your question, please let me know promptly.
Understand that you can't switch back to the Mac OS system from the Windows system after installing the Windows system on the MAC device. I understand the trouble caused by this problem, and I will try my best to help you solve it.
The following are all the possible solutions I know, including restarting and holding down the "alt" you mentioned. I hope they will help you:
- Start by holding down the "Option" key: restart the iMac and hold down the "Option" key (that is, the "alt" key you mentioned). This should display a startup options menu, allowing you to select a macOS. I know you have tried it, and you can try it many times to make sure that the key is pressed at the right time.
- Use the startup disk in System Preferences.
-In Windows, press "Win+R", then type "msconfig" and press Enter.
-In the pop-up System Configuration window, select the Startup tab.
-If you see the startup item of macOS, select it and set it as the default startup item, and then restart the computer.
- Use terminal command: If you can access macOS, you can set macOS as the default boot disk in the terminal by the following methods:
-Open the terminal. Enter the following command and press enter:
sudo bless --mount /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD --setBoot --nextonly
-where "Macintosh HD" is your macOS partition name, make sure the name is correct.
-Enter the administrator password and press enter. Then restart the iMac.
- Install the Boot Camp driver: In Windows, you can download the Boot Camp support software from Apple's official website. After the download is complete, unzip and run the installer. This will reinstall the Boot Camp driver and Boot Camp manager.
- Reset NVRAM: It may reset some of your system settings. Generally, it will not cause you to lose data.
-With the device turned off, press and hold the "Option + Command + P + R" key, and then press the power button.
-Hold down the key after the start-up sound sounds until you hear the second start-up sound, and then release the key.
-This will reset NVRAM, which may help your computer identify the correct boot disk.
If none of the above methods work, you may need to try reinstalling Boot Camp or contact Apple Support for further assistance.
I hope the above information can be of help to you. If you try the solution, please feel free to tell me the results or the problems you encounter.
Best Wishes
