    Hi Rudraswamy TH

I do understand how you are feeling right now, losing your computer is really frustrating.

    I noticed your picture.

Due to organizational policy, you cannot locate your computer, so it is hosted by your company.

This page will usually have an option to disable the device, for organizational policy reasons you will need to contact your IT administrator to perform this action.

Your company manages all this and we can't do anything about it.

It is recommended to contact the IT department as soon as possible, they may have other ways to help you. In the meantime, we can learn from this and take more preventative measures in the future.

    Best wishes

    Hi Rudraswamy TH

Your devices are managed by the company and it is a matter of privacy for you and your company and we do not have access to the location of the devices under the account.

I note that your IT department has contacted Dell and suggested that all relevant information (such as the device's serial number, IP address, and MAC address) be provided and that they be able to track the device from those sources.

Consider making a report to the police with details of the device. This may lead to your device being found quicker

    Hello Merek,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I’ve communicated with our local IT team, and they’ve informed me that they’ve raised an internal ticket with the vendor, Dell, to track the device.

Given your deep involvement in the tech Microsoft revolution that brought us Windows OS, it’s unfortunate to hear that nothing further can be done.

Surely, there must be a way to track the device using its IP address or MAC address—I can provide those details if needed.

Please assist me in this situation.

    Hi Merek,

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I've followed the steps, but I'm having some trouble. The Find My Device option you mentioned doesn’t seem to be available under the Devices tab on my account. Could you please guide me on what to do next? Please see the attached image.

This is a company laptop, and I need to do everything possible to locate it. Is there a way to track the device using its MAC address? I'm under a lot of pressure to recover it, as I would need to pay for the replacement if it's not found.

Your further assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there are any additional steps I can take.

    Hi Rudraswamy TH

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Understanding your problem you have lost your laptop

You can try to remotely locate, lock, or wipe your device with the help of some features of your Microsoft account. Here are the exact steps:

Visit the official website of your Microsoft account using another device (e.g., another computer or cell phone):

Sign in to your Microsoft account.

On the account homepage, click on the Devices tab.

Find the lost laptop in the list of devices.

Click on the "Find My Device" option next to the device.

On the Find My Device page, you can view the last known location of the device.

If the device is online and location services are enabled, you can see its current location.

    Lock a device remotely

If the device is online, you can select the Lock option.

After locking the device, the device will be unusable and can only be used for a clean system reinstall which will lose all your data.

    Contact IT

It is recommended that even if you have successfully locked the device remotely, you still need to notify your company's IT department to ensure they are aware of the situation and take the necessary security measures.

Contact me if you need anything else.

    Best wishes
