Random input lag - After rebuilt PC & fresh windows install

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue with input lag.

I recently rebuilt my computer and did a fresh install of Windows 11 Home edition. After installing all of my old programs I noticed I would have input lag playing a game after the first couple minutes. This happens every time without failure Below is what I would experience...

Full keyboard reset ( illumination turns off and on to represent the reset ). All keys are non functional. After it turns on there is a 3s to 5s delay from keystroke to effect on screen.

-Time of issue varies from 3s to 20s.

Full mouse reset (same as above). Mouse will become functional after turning back on with no delay.

-Time of issue typically 1-2s

Audio/Headphones reset. The audio resumes when the keyboard becomes functional. Every time.

Troubleshooting:

To start, let me explain what I HAVEN'T tried (that I could think of/find online)

-Another Windows install

-Taking the computer apart and putting back together

-Anything with BIOS

-Reinstalling games on another hard drive ( I didn't think of it until writing this post, but not sure is related )

Here is what I have tried (that I could think of/find online)

-Reinstall drivers for all effected devices

-Hardwiring devices to test is latency is bluetooth related

-Clean reset of computer

-Reinstall drivers for GPU

-Reinstall games

-Reconnect ethernet cable ( I know its not related but I was curious )

-Using different USB ports / USB-C ports

I'm not sure where to begin as the articles I could find were similar but not as specific as mine. Below is all of my spec info

OS: Windows 11 Home

Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI

CPU: Intel i7 14700k

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB)

PSU: CORSAIR RM1000X

Devices

Mouse: AEROX 9 Wireless

Keyboard: APEX PRO (wired)

Headphones: ARCTIS NOVA PRO Wireless ( USB-C Base Station)

In case it is needed, I notice this on League of Legends ( a game with minimal hardware requirements )

However this is the case with Mount & Blade Bannerlord, Rocket League, Elden Ring and others.

Please let me know what else you may need that I forgot to put in here for spec. Thank you.

    Hello Cullen Feagin,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Microsoft Answers Community.

I have noticed that the issues come after you "installed all of my old programs". It is possible that one of the "programs" caused such issue.

Please try rebooting the computer in safe mode (which disables most third-party drivers and startup items), and see whether the issue persists. To do so, please right-click Start->Terminal (Admin), and enter the following command to reboot to the recovery environment:

    shutdown /r /o /f /t 0

It should reboot to a "Choose an option" screen. Select Troubleshoot->Advanced options->Startup settings. Select "Reboot", and select "5" for safe mode with networking.

If the issue is not present in safe mode, it is caused by the "programs" that you have installed. You can try performing a clean boot to identify the program causing the issue.

To do so, right-click Start->Task manager. Go to the "Startup" tab, and disable all startup items. Then, press Windows+R and enter "msconfig". Go to the "Services" tab, select "Hide all Microsoft services", and then select "Disable all". Select Apply and reboot. See whether the issue persists.

Please refer to this support article for details, and how to pinpoint the application causing the issue.

Disclaimer: A "clean boot" starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance; however to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step, so that it will help you get back on track.

We look forward to your response.

    Best Regards,
